TRANSPORT-A-CAKE. I couldn't afford one of those "fancy" $8 cake savers for transporting cakes, so I just went to the dollar store and bought the biggest plastic bowl I could find with a lid. I set the cake on the lid with a little frosting under the cake to hold it in place and then frosted it, and now I have an airtight cover by using the bowl over it!

WASHCLOTH ICEPACK. When I need an ice pack for my face, I take a face cloth, wet it, fold it length-wise into thirds and place it in a small plastic bag. Then I place it in the freezer. In just a short time my freezer pack is ready and on my face. The small size of the facecloth is just right for your face, and when it is no longer needed you have your face cloth back.

BREAKFAST TO GO. I like making my own instant oatmeal. I fill zip-type plastic bags with quick-cooking oats, cinnamon or other spices and a tablespoon or two of trail mix or dried fruit. When I get to work I dump my mix into a disposable cup, add artificial sweetener if desired, add hot water from the coffee machine, and pop it in the microwave for a few seconds.

FREE MOVIES. We do the same thing with movies that we do with books—we go to the library. You can check out your local video store and write down titles of the latest releases, then look for them at the library. Most of the time you have to put your name on the waiting list, but my husband and I have not paid for a movie in over a year! And we've seen all the newest releases.

DRESSING BABY. When trying to dress a newborn whose fingers seem to spread and get caught in the sleeves, try putting socks on the baby’s hands.

FROSTING SAVER. When I don't have a cake pan lid, I insert a few toothpicks into the top of the cake before covering it with plastic wrap. It keeps the wrap from touching the cake.

SHOES FOR LESS. If you are a female, you can purchase top quality sneakers in boy’s and men’s sizes at huge savings. For example, I wear an adult women’s size 7-7 1/2 and can buy a men’s size 6-6/12 at about $20 less than the same shoe sized for adult women.

* When I want socks or plain white tee shirts I ALWAYS buy in the men's department. *I wear a ladies 8 1/2 wide to a 10 med. depending on shoe style and the womens socks don't seem to be long enough for me. Also I like the better height on the men's socks. Since I wear sandals for about 10 months of the year I look for the Earth Shoe brand at Wal-Mart and have never paid more than $12 for a pair. *For dress shoes I usually check out what PayLess Shoe Source has first then go to Wal-Mart.
I've also learned to check out the men's wear in the thrift store as I have long arms and legs and have a hard time finding something that fits properly in the ladies department. This seems to be even more true now that I've lost some weight. One pair of sweat pants that I now have, a ladies large, fit good except in the length, they barely come to my ankle when I'm standing but when I sit down they ride up bad.

Dickies like you wear on your neck are nice in changing weather like this because when it's cold out you just stay warmer if your necks warm. But as the day warms up and you get too hot you can pull the dickie off because it's only on your neck and not under your arms like a shirt and so you don't have to waste time changing to a cooler shirt. I can't seem to find dickies at Walmart, though and so a good thing you can do with an old turtle neck shirt is to make a dickie out of it. Just cut over the shoulders and leave a little bib of material on front and back. The part you cut gets tucked in the neck of your regular shirt so nobody can tell if it's hemmed or not which mine aren't because i don't sew, and also you can use the rest of the shirt for a rag hopefully it was an old one anyway. That's my tip and thanks, for the tips you other people posted they are good ideas for anyone.

If you have sheep and butcher an occasional buck save some tallow for waterproofing your boots, works absolutely great and costs nothing.

Another neet trick, on the breakfast to go subject...
When you make pancakes or french toast pop a couple in a ziplock and freez them... they reheat great in the toaster on those mornings your in a rush.
