View Full Version : Got a TV

As you folks know I've been without a working TV for some months. Since it's getting colder outside and I need to stay home and inside to stay warm I broke down this past Friday and bought myself a small TV. My younger neice's husband works at a pawn shop and had passed the word to me, through my DD, that they had one for $20. We checked it out but it was larger than I really wanted so I took one with a 13" screen that I can easily pick up and carry. I was a little hesitant to get it because the only sign of a name on the front was "linitron" or something similar. I decided to go for it when they told me I could bring it back if I couldn't get any reception on it in the trailer. When I checked the label on the back before purchasing a rabbit ears antenna at Wal-Mart I found that it was actually a Sony! I get the standard channels, ABC, CBS, NBC, and PBS. Can't bring in Fox or the other one or even any of the Spanish language stations or the low power religious stations but at least it gives me something to watch occasionally. The TV and antenna cost me about $27 all told, with tax, so I think I got a pretty good bargain. NBC and CBS are pretty snowy but since I actually listen more than watch the shows I don't really mind. The other two channels, ABC and PBS come in brilliantly. I spent most of Saturday evening watching PBS as they're having their pledge drive and had a couple of good music programs on. I especially enjoyed the Lawrence Welk one and will be keeping an eye out to see what else they offer.

Great ya got a Sony!! ;D
You may hear that in 2009 the analog over the air
TV signals will stop and be all Hi def. This is true BUT...
DON'T PANIC.
There will be a time when set top conversion boxes
will be available for a small fee or free depending on
what the FCC decides. These boxes will extend the
useful life of all the fine analog CRT set (there are
millions still in use!) still out there.
Since the smaller the CRT TV the more reliable they
are I'd say that 13" Sony very well could last you a
long , long time with a conversion box attached.
For my money there are only two TV brands worth
owning.........Sony & Sanyo. Both are bulletproof
TV's. They can keep all that Hi Def junk! ::) ::)
Good for you, Molly.
We'd be lost without a t.v., and are able to us sue's comsat, or somethinh, and that helps a lot.
--especially now that we have to stay in more because the sunny south ain't so sunny these days. It's cold here in tenn.
You know, molly, i've been reading your posts for years and can really relate to you. love, alma

AT&T is advertising a years worth of Dish TV for free. I'm seriously considering checking into it over the phone as I want to move the TV into the living room and as it is now it doesn't bring in the signal anywhere but the bedroom. Since I already have Cingular cell phone service I think it's best to keep things "all in the family" so to speak. I just need to know what the upfront costs for it will be and what the monthly cost is after that first year so I can add it to my budget.
