News story couple of days ago, rebates that aren't really rebates.
Seem that a few companies are sending you "checks" as a "rebate".
These are from a company that you didn't do business with.

It is a check alright, but cashing it signs you up to a service that "Gets you better prices" for the low, low price of $89 bucks, or what ever.

Personally I hate rebates, so avoid them like the plague,(if the deal is that good take off the rebate before I buy it), but I know a lot of people that really go for them.

So just be careful with "the check" and read the fine print recieved from a company you don't know.

The ones I hate are the ones that send you a "check" that you must use to buy something from them and usually the "check" doesn't cover even half the cost of the cheapest item!

Good warning!!

If you are into rebates and sending in for things,be very careful to read all the teenie tiny fine print before you sign and cash that check.

Usually the things that have rebates on them are not items that I buy,so no worries for me.
