Gleaning Fields

Around here( SE North Carolina) the farmers have started to get in their red and white sweet potato crop. After the pinking crews go thru and get the size that the canners want, folks will go out and pick up the discards- to big, too small, cut or roughed up. Easy to get all you want and then some. The white ones are the best! Baked in the oven till the skin start to brown, eat that bad boy cold is like candy.

We have almost no agriculture here in the Northwoods of Wisc., but the power company has been brushing/limbing and in some instances cutting large trees down on the power line trails. A lot of us go out and get extra wood this way.

corn is off now so I'm going after some free chicken food. ;)

Around here it's corn, if you can get to it before the farmers get the fields ready for next spring. We are just about done with harvest and the deer use this for feed during the winter, that is the corn that doesn't get plowed under.

Where I live I can glean pumpkins , corn or
firewood. The fields outside of town grow
either pumkins or sweet corn for the local
canning factory. The state road & power
line crews both cut up downed trees/limbs
and leave them along side the road for folk's
to pick up. The free firewood seldom last a
full day before there's a bare spot along the
side road where the wood was! ;D ;D
