I was doing some flea market hunting, came across some old Mechanics Illustrated Magazines....These ads are from Sept.1956, Hope they don't mind if I re-produce a few of the ads.........Thought y'all would get a kick out of it.

Funny part is the price on the Mosin nagants hasn't really went up that much in 55 years

Bet y'all would like one of these, LOL.

Those ARE interesting ads! But, near as I can figure, it looks to me like those guns are pretty similar in price today, given the devaluation of the dollar. Maybe a little more today, but not really all that much.

The really big change was that in the 50s, you could send a check and get the gun in the mail, no forms to fill out and no FFLs to pay for doing paperwork. Used to be as easy as buying bolts or washers. The cost of postage was a lot cheaper then, too!

Last gunshow I attended, a 91/30 Mosin Nagant could be had for about $120 out the door. My prediction is in the coming years, say within 5 to 10 years, you will see the price of Mosins off all kinds take a jump. Its bound to happen.

At one time you could buy Japanese rifles for practically nothing. Now you can't touch some for less than $500.00.

Try buying an SKS for less than $200 today. Who ever thought they'd become collectable? Glad I bought mine when they were going for less than $100.00.

Did the inflation cal on the Nagant:
What cost $14.95 in 1956 would cost $118.56 in 2010.
Pretty close, huh?

Would have probably got a lot better quality back then, especially on the SMLE's. :)

I remember as a kid reading Guns & Ammo magazine with the ads in the back for Grarands and .45 autos for $50 delivered to your front door by Mr. Friendly the mailman.

Oh, if I knew then what I know now!
