NEW Job, = New Problems

Hey folx, got me a new job !!! :) it seems like a great one, except, I've been tasked with setting up 26 kiosks (unamnned touchscreen onsite pc's) that basicly will sell show tickets from hotels, welcome centers, etc... they work fine, but our credit card readers don't currently work, which is because our POS (Point Of Sale) company is no longer in business... so I either have to write the code myself, or find out a company which currently offers the code to make them work...

ANYWAY, that's now MY problem, but a job is no longer a problem, & I even get company housing, so neither is a place to live :)

Anyone ever deal with kiosks ?

Have enough trouble doing what little I do with this computer at home.

Certainly NOT going to put in a credit card number in an unmanned, no known name PUBLIC computer.

Sorry dude, too old and set in my ways to be accepting of this technology. Need to see a name and face I can recognize. If something goes wrong, how do you deal with it in the hall of the mall ?

First thing I would do is find a client list of the POS company that went out of business. Their other clients most likely have found an alternative outfit to solve the card reader dilemma. Call around to their old clients and see how they solved the problem.

Back when I was working "in the world" I used to tell the young programmers it wasn't neccesary to re-invent the wheel on a daily basis. Just make friends with the kid who did.

Oh those kiosk things look cool! I haven't used one (I'm super cheap lol) but it's neat you're working with them.
