Heavy Ka wideband activity this am on I 29. Tactics deployed by troopers were reverse slope speed traps using ramped up Stalker units. The RD captured the scatter a half mile out allowing ample time to double check my running at the PSL. Current Spector RDD's (maybe the IV's used in DOT enforcement) appearing to be a white elephant were not able to detect this RD with it's ultra quiet, and low leakage oscillator...

Well, I guess that pretty well sums that up! Thanks for the update :-/

I wish my morning commute were more eventful so I could share something like that!
This morning I had to drive around a few large limbs that last nights storm had dropped into the road. Once on the hiway, I had to swerve to avoid running over an already-dead skunk. It was misting rain. Not enough to leave the wipers On. Too much to leave them Off. >:(

DAAAAANG! Ozark. Sounds like you had a rough commute today.. not the usual just drive to work , but you had obstacles.... I'm sure glad I don't do the commute thing anymore. lol

I'll break it down...
Ka wideband - police radar, 34.2 to 35.2 GHz
RD - radar detector
RDD - radar detector detector. Used to locate illegal RD's
DOT - Department of Transportation. It's illegal in all 50 states for commercial vehicles to operate RD's. Major ticket if caught.
Stalker - radar gun that operates in the 34.2 to 35.2 GHz range.
Spector III, IV - RDD's. Cheap RD such as Cobras generate noise called trash from their ocillator. The Cobras can be detected 1/2 mile out. Whister's Pro 78 at 15 feet, and the Beltronic STi Driver is undetectable.
Reverse Slope Ambush - hiding behind a hill, and waiting for a speeder to crest over the hill. Means the driver will often pick up more speed going downhill, meaning a bigger ticket.
Scatter - think of a light blub. You can see light without seeing the blub. Same for radar. High end RD's are very sensitive to scatter.
PSL - Posted Speed Limit. Running the PSL starves the LEOs, and waste their time setting up speed traps which is the best way to defeat speed traps. Eventually they move on to richer hunting grounds.
Ramped Up - Turning the power up to max on a radar gun. In the past, a lot of LEO's ended up with testicular cancer by keeping the radar gun in their laps. Now, they mount the antenna behind their heads. :o (one trooper had the power cranked so high, I got him 2 miles out...amazing.
