I was wondering anyone ever bought one of the shelves from Shelf reliance, I so far own one of there Cansolidator Plus shelves and I just ordered a big Harvest shelf from them to organize all my cans. Its a bit pricey $400 but the cans just roll from top to bottom, and I got no time to construct one at the moment. It apparently holds 460 cans.
I have a little cansolidator that holds 60 cans and omg its great, I was thinking of buying 3 or 4 more of the smaller ones, but I was like meh I got the space, why not get the big one..
Well I'm curious if anyone else has one of these or has thought about purchasing one..
thanks

We have money and space limitations, so we use simple shelves. We buy canned goods at least a dozen cans at a time when the price is right, and I rotate the cans the hard way--take out all the old stuff on the shelves, IN ORDER, put new stuff in the back, and rpelace the old stuff in front, in the same order they were before. Not much work, really, when you do a couple dozen at a time.
Our shelving is used store shelving, like the groceries and big box stores use, with slotted metal uprights and shelves that can be hooked on at any height. They will take one heckuva load, too. I found most of this stuff at the junkyard, and filled in what parts I needed from a used store fixture dealer. The discount store had "Almond" color latex enamel for 2 bucks a quart, so we got a couple quarts and repainted it all.
The pantry looks like Wal Mart now. I have a couple hundred bucks in it all. That is for 16 feet of shelving, floor to ceiling, with 4 or 5 shelves, depending on what we put there. It looks like this: http://www.shelving-direct.com/category/gondola_shelving/10.htm
From what I found searching for the unit you mentioned, I think I have much greater can density on simple shelves, which is important to us.

I've always thought those would be great, but I have about 2000 cans now, plus boxes and bags and jars...and...you get the picture. I have shelves, bookshelves, stuff under the bed. I need a second house just to store the stuff! And I buy most of my shelves -- old wooden bookcases -- for $20. So more $$ for food and other preparations.

I wish I had good shelving options, but I have to use what I have or find at bargain prices, old book shelves, metal shelves, sturdy lumber, etc. I try to organize, dust, and re-group all my storage areas quarterly. When I do I re-arrange and get all the oldest to the front, etc. But in between times, I just keep sharpie markers handy and date everything as its added, so that I can use the oldest cans first. Nice shelving would be wonderful, but its not in the budget for the forseeable future.

I thought those shelf reliance shelves look great, but you sure can't use 'em on home canned foods in jars, and that is most of my storage foods, so stick with shelves and stacked cardboard boxes, well labeled....

My first carpentry job as a kid was to build shelves for Mom's canned food. We had a spare bedroom in the old farmhouse where I used 2 x 4's to frame across one entire end of the room. We used 1 x 12 lumber for the shelving, 3 pieces deep = about 34" wide shelves. Supported very 3 feet with 2 x 4 cross pieces to 2 x 4 posts. By nailing it all to the walls, floor and ceiling, it was nearly indestructible--very strong and stable.
Four shelves like that across a 15 ft. room, plus the floor, gave us roughly 3' x 15' x 5 shelves = 225 square feet of shelf area, and we stacked quart jars in two layers on each, with heavy cardboard between layers to make them stable. That was a LOT of quart jars! I would estimate between 1,000 and 1,200.
Total outlay was for the 1 x 12 and the 2 x 4's. We had the nails laying around the farm. I think I could do it today for maybe a couple hundred bucks at the outside, probably much less, since I could scrounge the 2 x 4's and maybe some plywood or particle board on Freecycle.

Given the ease of making shelves, my first option would be to build my own; probably with wood, although making metal shelves is a fairly simple matter too, whether bolted or welded. In that way, I would know what went into it and could build it to suit my needs.

Well when I built my house and added on I ended up with a whole room for storage and believe me I know what it is to need shelves, I have hundreds of Home canned stuff, but some of the store bought ones just get in the way. I am running out of space so I bought that shelf.
I am like many of you I have stuff all over my house and now I'm trying to consolidate it to one room, and make it all neat and tidy, yeah like thats ever going to happen lol..
Just wondered if anyone had one... Thanks for the thoughts
