If you get a call offering to lower your credit card interest rate it IS A SCAM!!!
It is a computer generated call and you are asked to press 9 (this was in my case). When the phone is answered on the other end, the person says, "Card services" in a very hurried voice. I KNEW it was a scam, but stayed on the line so I could write down the phone number, which seemed phony and I was afraid it would vanish if I hung up. I asked "what Credi Card is it", he just repeated "Credit Card Services", I again asked, "what is the name of the Credi Card?" He became very aggitated and said, and I quote, "don't call here again you retarded pain in the a**". Whereupon I said. "I know you're a scammer and I have your number and I'm calling my State Attorney General's Office." And when I did, guess what. The phone rang innumerable times and the girl sounded like a one armed paper hanger. She said yes it was a scam that had been going on since last week. A LARGE number of people had given out credit card numbers AND SS numbers to the scam artist.
NEVER, NEVER give out ANY personal info on the phone unless you have initiated the call to your credit card company. Also, never follow any link from your email to your credit card company, ALWAYS initiate the connection yourself AND double check to make sure you have no typos in the url because some scammers have very close web addresses to the real companies.
IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE BEEN SCAMMED CALL YOUR STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE IMMEDIATELY.
Call all of your credit cards and advise them of the problem.
Stay safe guys and gals and trust NO ONE, except maybe your mom.
