I am living with my daughter and have no income of my own. I hurt my back several years ago and can't work at a full-time job. A friend sent me a coupon to fill out for a Medical Billing Specialist. It says you'll be ready after four months of training. I'm home 24/7 and thought that this might be something I could do, but wanted to see if anyone esle is doing this.

My former neighbor did this from her home. She had to go in to town once I week I think.

I never talked to her that much about it but I know sometimes she was "behind" and had to work longer to get stuff done, but it never seemed excessive. I think they have quotas to meet so it would be a matter of making sure the quotas expected were not unreasonable.

Working from home is the best for me, but some people just can't deal with it. We've had people in our group quit after a couple of months without personal contact with others! I guess I am antisocial enough to thrive in this environment. ;D

I stay home alot now so that wouldn't bother me.I don't want to make all the money possible just a few extra $s.I don't want to be a slave to work I still want to stop a smell the roses :). Some employers might not like that so I just need a happy medium. Or I could work my butt off buy everything I need and then quit.Either way thanks for the reply.

Just make sure that there is a need in your area. My girlfriend just completed her associates degree in medical billing and codeing and has been unable to find a job in that field. We are in Michigan, where jobs are scarce, so it may be different in your area.

I have a friend in CA who partners with his wife at home, doing medical transcriptions. They do fairly well at it and still have time to run a pet walking/watching service.

Thanks whippersnapper, We live in a rural area,I might be better off finding something I know something about :) I've been pushing ideas around in my head.I have lots of family in Michigan. One Aunt was just told, you can move to Ohio or New York or get laid-off with no unemployment! It's really bad up there but my sister who lives in Ann Arbor would'nt live anywhere else. I've got my thinking cap on and I'm checking things out. Thanks again for the advice.

I want to train for medical coding if at all possible. I know that in some places there isn't much call for them but here with our large "medical center" area as it is called out in the north west section of town and several new hospitals and doctors offices coming in I believe I have a fairly good chance at finding a job.
Also, the young man who teaches the small group Bible study I attend on Sunday mornings is an executive at one of the hospital chains here and he told me that they are setting up their coders to work from home! That would be ideal for me as I've got granddaughters to care for once my daughter get into school. Oh yes, all the courses I need to take, except remedial math, are done online so I can go to school while I watch the girls! I know the two organizations that do the certification tests for coding both have online training programs and one even has a book study program that you do at home. I'd check them out before paying for a course at a business college. The one I want to take is taught by a local community college.
