I hope I am in the right section for this question. I have been doing some research off and on and was wondering how to get a grant to build a self sufficient home. Could anyone give some advice, and if I'm in the wrong section please let me know. I have been looking for sometime now and am getting frustrated. Please if anyone knows and can help it would be appreciated thanks.

shinmeeok,
where have you ever heard of getting a gov grant for a self sufficient home? I have not heard of this.

I looked around and found this:

http://www07.grants.gov/search/basic.do

You can put in self sufficient home and you will come up with some, but not sure if it is what you are looking for.

Let us know what you come up with.

Actually msta999, I was wondering if there were grants that would help someone research and build a self sufficient home. I have researched off and on for sometime and was just curious if someone knew something I didn't know. There are people who have said there are some if you need help with the financial end, you know instead of getting an inheritance or by chance win the lottery. Thanks msta999

Dear Shinmeeok,

Howdy, Shinmeeok!

A government grant for a self-sufficient home? *

If it's paid for with a government grant, how can it be self-sufficient? *Wouldn't you find those in the same place where you would find spotted paint or square circles?

;D *;)

Seriously, I think you would do better for yourself if you made whatever place you're at right now more self-sufficient. *Even if it's with a window-box of herbs or tomato plants in 5-gallon buckets, even if it's raising tropical fish for sale in your apartment, or starting a home-based publishing business, every little bit helps. *

Then, you can take the money you save and earn and apply it towards a down-payment on a homestead found at auction or in foreclosure. *No government grant required and no government control of your business that comes with government subsidies.

Earning something for yourself is hard work, but you'll appreciate it much better than if it's given to you by Uncle Sugar.

I imagine there is a way to get a gov grant for this, but it would probably have to be something new and untried. Then you would have to post what/how it worked.
