Hi everyone, I have a cat that has come up with worms. Don't have the money to take to the vet so looking for something I can give him I have here at home. I know garlic is good for fleas but I can't remember what to give him for this.

The most common worms in cats are roundworms and tapeworms, which they generally pick up by eating fleas while they are grooming themselves. Tapeworms sometimes lay eggs in the fleas, which hatch after a cat ingests the flea. Of course, they can also come across them in the stools of another infected cat or through infected birds, mice and other prey animals. Roundworms can infect your cat in much the same ways, through infected stools or through prey animals.

None of this really helps much because your question was about what to do about it without paying a veterinarian, and I don't know. There are over the counter medications for worms but I don't know how effective they are, or how dangerous they might be.

Ringworm is not a worm at all, but a fungus. It can be some really nasty stuff, but there are creams and other solutions that the cat can be carefully bathed in that will take care of it. Some of them are over the counter, I believe.

Oh wow, I meant to edit my first post, adding a paragraph, and it re-posted the entire post instead.

Try a can of salmon. That's what we always used. Then as maintenance, we fed them a can about once every three months. Worked for us, but no guarantees.

Do you have any fenbendazole? It's good to keep wormer on hand for animals. It is an over the counter product that costs about six dollars, and lasts for many wormings.

Used tobacco for worming larger animals, I don't know if it is safe for cats or what kind of dosage. You might try a google search.

you' can probably find even cheaper but amazon has a good range - the cheapest immediate option looks like $3.99

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=cat+wormer&x=0&y=0

Hope the link works.

Over here the normal pharmacy sells flea meds and wormer OTC but don't know if the same is true in the US.
