Lately, i've been seeing a blurb on some of the credit card offers that says something about "Opting Out" from receiving all pre-screened card offers.

Interesting thought, and we've considered it, since we have no plans to get a credit card and it would save on junkmail. Also, it might be a cheap insurance against ID theft by leaving less in the mailbox for the scumbags to steal.

Who runs the Opt-Out database? I can't imagine that the credit reporting agencies (Experian, Trans Union, etc) are doing it, because it is totally against their interest. Is it the FTC? Anyone do this? What, if anything, are the possible negative sides to the coin when opting out? A black mark on your credit report?
