azbrat, how far away is a rabbit processing plant, or are you going to sell privately?

I was interested in rabbits, for a while. Did you know that many processing plants have "runners" pick up the rabbits? For a small fee you can save yourself a long drive.

We did rabbits for a couple of years. Had as many as 125 at a time. The person who took them to the processing plant would send us a check about a week after pick-up. He stopped paying us and went bankrupt. We lost 1800 dollars and were never able to recover. The plant was in Kentucy and we are in Alabama so the best advice would be to live close enough to take your own. Sure was some tasty all white meat! Kathy in Alabama

wolfe, if you don't mind my asking---How much money do you think one can clear in a year raising that many rabbits, assuming no one goes out of business and sticks you for the bill?

I'm wondering because raising rabbits is something I want to do once we get a homestead. I'm interested because I'd like to have my children help raise them and put the money away for their college. (No, they will not be processing them :o)
