I am interested in getting hand gun training but am not necessarily interested in getting a conceal handgun license. *It is not that I wouldn't like to carry a concealed handgun but in Texas it requires thumb print and license fees and renewal (yadda, yadda, yadda) *If I had a larger piece of property I would just put up a target and go to town but I don't and I do not want to take the chance of accidently hurting someone. *Is there anyone from the central texas area that can recommend someone for training. *Also the concealed handgun classes here are booked up till the end of June. *

If someone is interested or knows someone interested in teaching but does not want to post here please PM me.

Thanks

STRONGLY recommend finding a qualified instructor, i.e. NRA to teach.

You would be surprised at the number of folks I have taught who "this is how my daddy/husband/boyfriend taught me to shoot" violating MANY safety rules.

Thanks, I finally found a range about 30 miles from me that has qualified instructors. I am hoping I will get to go some time in the coming week. They give private lesson which is perfect for me :)

Check out Paul Howe's school in Nacadoches. Sorry I can't remember the name.

Thanks Scout. I got the training and went ahead and applied for my CHL. Seems we are backlogged here in Texas for the CHL processing :)

In the future should someone ask--

refer them to your local police station. They know where is the closest and/or best due to their own requalifying and recerts.

Maybe my experience was different because I'm a woman, but I didn't find the police very helpful. They were more questioning than anything.

I found our local gun club and shooting range to be more helpful. We found a great instuctor who is very pro women learning to shoot. He's NRA certified, trains police in urban tactical something, teaches self-defense and is a body guard for someone high up in the Catholic Church. He did a great job with my daughter - made her feel very comfortable about learning to shoot (something she's wanted to learn, but was nervous 'cause none of her friends do anything like this) and was very encouraging with her.

I liked the gun club also because they have a women's only group and public day's where you can work with certified instructors for free.

Anyway, just some more choices.
