I've had this handgun for a long while and have yet to fire it. I impulse bought it from a guy in nevada.
The other is a dan wesson I bought in the early eighty's, I have taken two deer with it.
I have auto handguns, but I think the revolver is the most versitile and reliable.

Welcome, Redloh! That sure is a pretty Model 19!
I'd DEFINITELY shoot it and try it out, unless you want to get maximum dollar from a collector. Also, the old box alone is worth $$$ to collectors, especially if it has the original owners manual, screwdriver, etc. with it.
I myself have had a few Model 19's over the years, including one that was identical to yours, as a matter of fact. The only current one I have is a "safe queen", a pristine 4" with factory nickel, that was unfired when I purchased it. Here's a pic of it:

I purchased a set of Eagle coke grips for it, for looks and for utility. It shoots all of my pet .357 and .38 loads like a champ. I've always had a special place in my heart for K-frame Smiths, and this one, once I saw it at my buddy's shop on consignment, HAD to go home with me! :D
I've always leaned more toward the N-frames, but I always have at least ONE K-frame, and this one will be going to my grandkids some day.

Many years ago i bought a S&W M-19 and shot it nearly every day... I put thousands and thousands of rounds through that gun, and eventually, it was getting out of time and needed a major tuneup...
About that same time, i was getting on the band wagon with those that love the 44spl. cartridge, and of course i had to have one. Every gun chambered in 44spl. was heavier than i wanted to carry "except" the Charter Arms Bulldog. So i bought one, and after owning that finely made M-19 for so long, i knew that Bulldog would never do!
So, i set upon looking for someone to make me a 44spl. on a S&W "K" frame. (M-19's are on a "K" frame) Everyone i talked to said it wasn't possible, but my measureing said it WAS possible, "if" it was a 5 shot, and no one wanted to tackle makeing a 5 shot cylinder chambered 44spl... Then i heard of a guy who was considered a "genius" when it came to custom pistols, so i contacted him. It took some doing to sort things out, but he finally agreed to give it a go...
Anyway, here's my "OLD" M-19, reborn as a 44spl.,

Anyway, it's now many years later, and i'm still in love with "K" frames... :D
BTW, back while my old 19 was being turned into a 44spl., i bought a second M-19 so i wouldn't be without one!

That is SWEET!!! :D
I also love .44 Specials, and I've yet to purchase one. My wife loves to shoot my Model 29's, but only with 200 grain Special loads.
What loads do you use in it? I always used 180-200 grain Sierra's or Speer's in my .44 Special cases.

I don't/won't use any jacketed bullets in any of my 44 handguns... There's no reason too, as jacketed bullets are harder on the gun, cost more, aren't any more accurate or effective at killing animals at those velocities...
I use swaged lead bullets for light loads, and hard cast bullets for hunting or defence... I buy the swaged bullets in 500 packs, and the rest i cast myself...

I love those hard cast slugs at moderate velocities in .44 and .45 caliber pistols. Most times, if one can't do the job with those, then they can't do it.
I do use 140gr. JHP's in .357's though, and have been thinking of using a 200 gr. FN in my .45 Autorim. I need to buy a mold for that though.

I picked up a Model 19 a few years ago. It was used and looks used. But I love the gun.
