I was taking the state required concealed weapons class yesterday and we got to handle a whole bunch of weapons. I've always been a revolver guy, but this one semi (I think they call it a single/double?) really caught my eye. You chamber a round and then a button drops the hammer to the carry position. The first shot it shoots as a double action with a hard trigger pull, then afterwards it shoots as a semi with a hair trigger. Very interesting. I wouldn't be worried about shooting myself in the ass with it holstered.

Double action auto's have been around for a long long time...

Howdy

Never owned one. But the ones with an action like that I have handled seem to work real well.

Thing is, like anything, it takes a BUNCH of practice, live and dry fire, to get used to them.

Good luck

I love it too. Great gun. Sturdy, reliable, but I don't like all the buttons and levers. Personal preference is the glock.

The British have used I believe the Sig 226 in 9mm for many years. They went with the weaker 9mm because it holds 15 rounds and just prefected the "double tap". 3 or so years ago our Special Forces dropped the 9mm and went back to the .45 acp for a first round sure kill. Typical of Americans - "More Is Better".

Got that right, 45 every time. Except for the 10mm. ;D

Then there's the Sauer P220 with the short-throw DAK trigger - Truly a better combat trigger! Read about it, HERE (http://www.sauer-waffen.de/index.php?id=246&lang=en)

The gun I was handling was the P220 with the 12 lb. double action, and 4 lb. single action. I'm a revolver guy and I spend a lot of time crashing around in the woods off trail hiking, hunting, and fly-fishing, so I liked the feature of the heavy trigger pull on the first shot. I just personally don't like the hair triggers on the Glocks etc. I want something I KNOW isn't going to get hit by a branch and go off in my a**.

I have a Taurus PT145. Nice gun but due to the bbl length, a lot of the 45's power is lost. I hope with my tax refund to pick up a Springfield XD or entry level Kimber.

The P-220 is an outstanding gun. It was the first gun that I carried as a LEO. I still prefer the P-220 without the rail.

The police in my town carry them and like them.

Ahh, .... Glocks do NOT have, 'hair triggers'. Standard trigger pull on a typical Glock pistol is between 5 1/2 and 6 1/2 pounds. Perhaps what you don't like is the fact that - no matter what you read on Glock Talk - Glock pistols do NOT have a manually-applied, sure and certain, mechanical safety. In fact the best safety on a Glock pistol is the holster that it's carried in. (Which is the reason, 'Why' a Glock's holster should always cover the trigger guard.)

If it means anything to you I live with a Glock pistol 24 hours a day. It's always with or right next to me. Except when I'm at the range, and especially on an active firing line, I always carry my Glock in C-3; and, I'm plenty fast coming out of it, too.

Be careful with new SIG's; a lot of what's coming out of New Hampshire, now, isn't of the same high quality as it used to be - especially for the civilian market. (Don't believe me? Try spending some time on the SIG owners forum - You'll see!)

You might want to look at the Colt Officer's ACP in .45 ACP. It is very compact, reliable, and easily concealable firearm. Very simple design with more than a few interchangable parts with its big brother the M1911A1. MUCH cheaper too. The Sig P220 is a very good, accurate, and reliable firearm as well.
