Assuming I "need" laser grips for my 642, please inundate me with pros and cons, most reliable, best value, holster compatible, etc....thanks in advance! ??? :-/
Even if you get them, learn to shoot without them functional. Things always break, batteries die, etc. So, in order to not get caught at a disadvantage DON'T rely on technology, and stick to the basics.
Happy shooting!

What Jim said. A friend bought a set of Crimson Trace grips for his wife's J-frame and can not say enough good things about them. He let me try them out while we were at the range and even in the bright sunlight you could clearly see the laser out to the 25yds target line. My only gripe at the time was I couldn't choke up enough to feel like I had a good grip, which didn't last long. I believe that the grips my friend bought had a pressure pad that activated the laser when you gripped the stocks so you only used the laser while you were actually using the gun.

:) Crimson Trace!
My recommendation would be to stay with a red laser. Holster shouldn't matter. Like the man said: Learn to shoot, both, with and without the laser; but, when you are using the laser, remember to aim the dot and not the pistol! ;)

I have had great success with Crimson Trace grips on a Beretta and a GLOCK 26. I would recommend them for the J frame as well though I have not used them on a revolver.

My husband and I have Crimson Trace laser grips on everything from .38s to .480 Rugers in the revolver line and they work flawlessly! I really, really like them on my carry gun (which is a 1911) too.
