HI-POINT advertises inexpensive handguns for short money (made in USA ) with a lifetime warranty . Please share your experiences with these handguns if you have them .

I don't own one but I did stay at a Holiday Inn once. ;D
A couple buddies have them and they are made down the road a piece from me.
For what you get they are a decent gun.
I know some malitia types that carry them.
I personally have better guns but if I were to start over and was short of $ it would be my first handgun purchase.
I keep hearing they are coming out with a .45acp carbine. :o
I can hardly wait. 8)

I've heard generally favorable things about them, esp. their carbine. they might be worth checking out.

Thanks, I'm asking all over, it just seems too good to be true . I WANT to buy one, if only for a cheap to feed 9mm for plinking .
They told me that the .45 was due this Fall, but was changed to sometime in 07'

I own a couple of handguns, 9MM and 45, the 45 I bought at a pawn shop. Someone had tried to make an easy pull by removing a spring; so it did not fire correctly. I sent it back, HighPoint fixed it and returned it with an extra clip.
A friend has a 9MM carbine and his only problem was some paint coming off. I like them ;D :) ;D Michael

Hi Y'all,
We bought one of the Hi-Point carbines, in 9mm,
for DSW Sharon, a few years ago.
I was against it. I thought it was cheap junk.
We kept it about 6 months. And, we fired a few boxes of shells through it.
DSW didn't like it. I didn't like it.
We sold it to my SiL. We put the cash down on a
Model 94 Winchester .357 magnum Trapper Special.
It's a levergun. We both love it.
SiL kept the Hi Point carbine a few months. He didn't like it.
He sold it. And he put the cash on a Ruger Camp Carbine, in 9mm. He likes that a lot better. It cost twice as much though.
I guess it's all in what you want it for. I get more Range & accuracy, out of my .357 Winchester Carbine.
I want something a bit more solid.
YMMV.

My experience with them is they are JUNK. Save your money and get a better gun.

Bought a 9mm awhile back strictly as a BOB stash gun. It shoots reliably but it is not a quality weapon.

Two 9mm carbines & 1 model-C 9mm pistol.
Good guns all.
Even took a whitetail doe with the handgun, although I don't recommend it & won't attempt it again.

A co-worker of mine bought the 9mm. He is going to come by after work some night to let me try it out .

I have bought 4 of them. Two 45's and two 9mm's. I bought one first in late 1990's. I bought the 45 to see if I liked a 45 caliber. I got hooked on the gun. I put a regular coffee can out at the pistol range and shot it plum out to the 100 yard backstops. If I rest on the bench I can push hitting the can out to the 130 yard mark. I get it 6 or 7 out of 8 shots. I then got a 9mm and it did the same thing. I can reload for the gun. I have had no jams whatsoever. I probably put close to 3500 shells through the two guns. I next bought a 9mm for my wife and a 45 for my father. They both liked the guns well and shot them accurately right off. My father bought a 9mm carbine and used it on his fourwheeler as a plinker. And they are easy to clean.

I have owned three Hi-Point Carbines in 9mm. All of them have worked great. While they felt like pure junk the darn things just never missed a beat. I don't have one now because everyone I have let shoot it offered me way more money than I paid for them. I would take another one if it came along and the price was right.

I figure since we live in America, with the freedom to choose from a variety of high-quality firearms, why buy a Hi-Point? They remind me of the Liberator 45 pistols dropped over France during WWII to help the French resistance.

Save your pennies a little longer, you'll be happy a lot longer.
P.S. I don't have any experience with the firearms, so take my comments with a grain of salt. ;)

They work. They're cheap. I won't own one. *I have found too many of them on drug thugs.

If its for plinking or the likes, it would do OK.
If its a gun you are gunna rely upon for self preservation, i would rather trust my life to a better qualified weapon.

They are what they are... Cheap.
For a little more money go with Bersa. I have two, a .380 about the same as a PPK and their .45 ultra compact. Well made and accurate, have put hundreds of rounds through both without any problems.
A lot of the cops around here carry the Bersa .380 as a backup.
Don't get me wrong, I love my Colts, but for inexpensive Bersa is the route to go.

I have a Glock 23 (40 cal )coming next week, but I still haven't ruled out the 9mm for a plinker

Hello!!!Funny to see this topic because I just got a HP 45.I receieved it NIB with two extra mags NIW.I also got a Tru-Glo sight set NIW with the deal + two boxes of Wolf ammo.I traded an extra 1100 shotgun to a friend for the whole package. The gun had never been fired.Well its a HEAVY gun but its sure fun to shoot. It is what it is...I made the gun jam twice in a hundred rounds.I LIKE the idea of a lifetime warranty!!Now I do think its an odd pistol but I dont have any problem shooting it and to me that is the most important. Thanks Robyn.

I have both a Hi-Point 9mm carbine and a .380. While they look and feel cheap (because they are), I have to say that they are both pretty accurate. I put a cheapie BSA red-dot scope on the carbine, just to have something fun to plink with. The .380 with ghost rings is just as accurate.
Construction wise, they're sloppy, but I put about 500 rounds through the carbine over the course of about three or four months, and had no jams whatsoever. When I finally took it apart a few days ago for cleaning, I was astounded by how dirty and gummed-up it was, but it still fed and fired the day before without any problems.
I've also tried the 9mm handgun, but I didn't care for it...it seemed even more shoddy than the others, and I couldn't hit much with it.
I wouldn't trust my life with them, but if they're all you can afford or you just want a plinking gun, they're alright.

I sneered at them until I got one for the hell of it:

It is what it is...a cheaply priced reliable gun that you can afford to lose....

I own the 9mm compact. Its amazing to me that a gun can look like such a POS yet still function with a modicum of reliability (upper ninetys %) and fit both my huge paws and my wife's dainty hands, but it does. Mine likes USA brand 110 gr. hollow points :)
If Glocks are tactical Tupperware then Hi-Points are tactical Gladware. Both do the same job but you don't feel to bad throwing the Gladware away when things get nasty.
Mine currently lives in my wife's car. I plan on buying several more and putting one in each bug out bag for my family.
My 13yo can rack the slide and fire accurately with it which is more that I can say for any other auto I own.

I really like my High Point 9mm. I've got an 8 round mag and a 10 round mag and have cycled through them as fast as I can reloaded and done it again. It's never jammed and is surprisingly very accurate. Shot it and a new Marlin .22 rifle for a while today. I'm pleased with them both. I'd highly recommend the High Point to anyone who can't afford an expensive gun or to anyone wanting to have a few extra around JIC. I've really put it to the test and it's past every one with flying colors. Well, except may-be for it's looks. It's not as classy as some but it's practical and reliable enough. Good enough for me.

There is a hi-point forum I found on the net. Most of the folks there like the hi-point weapons. From the threads there they are the best thing going.
For about the same money or less one could buy a CZ 52, Bersa, used S&W revolver or used blackhawk any of which I would rather have than a hi-point pistol.

I own 2 995 9mm carbines and Highly recommend them.
They are more fun than a basket of puppies.
I have owned a C9 an while it was reliable and reasonably accurate, once I got a better pistol I sold it.
My wife and I did a side by side comparison of a FM Hi-Power and the C9.
The C9's felt recoil was much greater and it just did not compare to the smooth action of the Hi-Power.
I don't regret buying the C9, nor do I regret selling it.
I do not recomend Hi-Point pistols to my customers.
