Here a good link of info. http://www.shootingtimes.com/handgun_reviews/springfieldxd_061206/

I have owned several different handguns but the sprinfield just feels right to me shot 4 differrent brands of ammo this past weekend all fed great no problems. I just purchased the Springfield XD 45 Tatical and like it so much I'm going to sell my Kimber Custom and go buy another one in a compact as well.

Here a pick of the one I purchased and all the stuff it came with total purchase was 545.00

I ordered one about a week ago; I think the gun store dudes are about ready to get a restraining order out on me - I've been a mite anxious....

I am considering the Bianchi model 82 CarryLok holster for CCW. What kind of holster are you using?

Congrats! I bought one myself just 2 days ago. I needed another .45 ;D I have not gone to the range yet because they are closed, the Springfield XD will replace my Walther P-99 AS .40, I still keep my trusty Colt 1911 by my bedside.

Just put money on the compact, simply because with the sleeve and a full length mag makes it a full size. However the short mag can make it a compact, and even with my big paws, I can still comfortably shoot it as a compact.

Sorry all havent posted in a while but here I am....

Pitdog congrats you will love it! Glad you found a compact hard to get in my area for some reason.... I went back in Feb to the gun shop and now *I have the 4 in barrell in 45 as well!!!! Still wanting to get a sub-compact this year sometime let me know how it shoots!!!!

Rick have you gotten your pistol yet? I use the supplied that came with the kit but I also purchased a Blackhawk Tatical
holster as well here a link to the one I use http://www.blackhawk.com/category1.asp?D=D0049&S=S0518&G=G1&C=C1072&N=1&pri cestart=&priceend=

No, I haven't gotten it yet, and it's killin' me. I heard my gunstore got a shipment in yesterday, so I'm waiting by the phone.

My brother has an XD Tactical in .40 SW; it is a sweet shooting pistole. I was a little leery of the XD Springers until I shot that one. The trigger was fairly crisp w/o a lot of creep.

Well, the XD Springer came in yesterday. It works flawlessly and shoots a lot better than I do.

100 rounds of brand X ball ammo and 20 rounds of Speer Gold Dot went through with zero malfunctions of any type.

I tried out a Blackhawk holster with the SERPA retention sytem. It worked pretty good and the price is agreeable, $40-$45. The holster can be configured as a paddle or belt holster.

The accuracy was pretty good. My best target at 25 yards was a 7" spread with 10 shots; not counting two flyers, I had a 4" spread with 8 shots.

I would reccomend the XD without hesitation. There is no external manual safety and the trigger pull is only about 5-6 lbs, so "You are the safety" applies if you opt to carry cocked and locked. You want to chose a holster that covers the trigger well and keep your finger off of the trigger until you are ready to shoot.

It is a 'point and click' interface like a Glock or DA revolver, but with a much crisper SA type trigger.

If the compact had been out, I woulda gotten one, but I'm pretty durned happy with my 4" service model. Nicely accurate, and digested everything I cared to feed it, from 185gr flying ashtrays to ball.

I have the same gun only in the 9mm. Great little gun. It stays at home though because out in the woods I still carry my Ruger 45 flat top.

How do you guys with 1911's like the trigger on the XD? I much prefer a single action to a double action trigger, it easier for me to keep it on target.

Bought a 4" Service model recently.
The trigger just takes a little getting used to, and I love the gun!!!!!

Ok all I put a Springfield Armory XML Tatical light on mine as well pretty sweet grabbed one on ebay for little more than half of what they retail for. Really fits well balancec nicely as well. Anyone else mounted a light to their XD?

The light mount rail seems tempting, but I'm opposed to weapon mounted lights for the most part......

I am not totally opposed to weapon mounted lights, I have a friend that has a laser/light on his HK USP-40(he also has a 5" XD45) and it is really nice with the laser on your tgt and having a light just in case.

I completely understand not having a light source directly in front of your vitals but sometimes it is much safer and easier to have that one hand free as when you have to carry a child to safety.

I have to say that the trigger on the XD45 I shot wasn't to difficult to get used to and be comfortable with and I carry a Colt Commander everyday

not having a light source directly in front of your vitals
True.
Neither is it good to be shining a light, and hence pointing a loaded gun, at an unknown object that is as likely to be the neighbors cat, or son, as a bad guy.
