hello, this is my first post.
i have wanted a good hunting sidearm for some time now and the one that keeps catching my eye is the ruger blackhawk .357 that can shoot 9mm with a change of the cylinder.
i was wondering if anyone had one such a gun and how they like or dislike it. or any info that may help.
thank you and have a great day
jesse.

I don't have the convertible model, but I do have the standard Blackhawk in .357 and I love it. You can buy the standard a little cheaper than the convertible and shoot .38 specials through it for about the same price as the 9mms. The .38special and the 9mm are about the same as far as power goes and you don't have to switch the cylinder out to shoot them. The only thing about the Blackhawk is they do come with a somewhat heavy trigger pull but that can be easily fixed. You won't be sorry no matter which way you decide to go. My Blackhawk was made in 1977 and is still going strong. Good luck.

I have several .357 NMBHs that I use for CAS. I don't have a 9mm cylinder for any of them. I also have a .45 Colt NMBH with a .45 ACP cylinder. I use the .45 ACP cylinder a lot. For shooting at the range I use light loads. Those loads use fast powder which works better in the small .45 ACP case than the large .45 Colt case. I save the .45 Colt cases for full power or more loads.
The 9mm may not work quite as well as the .45 combination. 9mm is typically .355" and .357 and .38 are usually .357-.358". The undersize 9mm jacketed bullets may not shoot as well through a .357" barrel. Softer 9mm bullets may slug up to groove diameter and shoot pretty well. You won't know until you try.
