Was sitting around today watching the rain tinkering with my gun stuff. I ran across a black nylon belt with shell loops that I had bought on sale at Walmart or somewhere. I had bought one for the Marlin .44 and bought a second because they were cheap and on the mark down rack. Then I spyed the Taurus Ultra Lite .38 it was in a nylon pancake holster. Hmmm this would make a cool holster rig. I had to cut the end of the belt loose so the nylon buckle could be removed and put the pancake holster on the belt. Then had to sew up the end of the belt. I positioned the holster where I wanted it on the belt and did a tack sewing job on it. I plan to go to a shoe shop and get some heavy sewing later on. The belt holds twenty rounds so I filled the loops with 158 gr RNL.
I have always liked to have a handgun when out walking in the woods and fishing. We don't have griz here so the biggest threat here is snakes or a wild dog. The Taurus Ultra Lite carries well I can't wait to get out and try it.

sounds like a good setup. any room for a stout knife, that'd make it a near perfect day to day for in the brush

Let me know how the Ultr-Lite works. I've been thinking of one as a CCW.

Since the wife, baby and I have gone back to traveling, we are now finishing up an assignment in NM, we have gotten into gem hunting and I am thinking about getting a dedicated pistol belt and holster rig to carry my 586 in while we are gem hunting or out and about in the boonies. I will probably get one for the wife also since she doesn't wear a belt and it is hard for her to carry without a belt. I will probably get a 3point harness for my bushmaster to carry while I dig or wander around.

The Taurus Ultra Lite .38 works great. I wore it on my ankle as a backup weapon for over three years when I was the local police chief.
I had to qualify with it both daytime and night every year to carry it. The course was 100 rounds day and 100 rounds at night. I could qualify with a 90% or better score every time. The taurus never had any problems. I have never fired any +P ammo through it but it is +P rated by the factory. I have used about everything from RNL to wad cutters. It does like the JSP Winchester Winclean ammo.
