I did it . Today we took the class to qualify for the concealed carry permit. In Tn it is just a carry permit - you don't have to conceal it. It was all day - sitting and talking guns - heaven for some of you ;D but a bit of over kill for me. 7 hrs of class work and 1 hr of shooting. Dh and I both qualified. Actually, it would have been hard not to qualify.

They taught us to point and shoot only from 15 feet or less. Only the front site from there back to 45 ft. They showed me a better place to put my off thumb and how to pull back on the non-trigger hand to offset the recoil. I can't say that it improved my aim greatly, but I did slightly better - only three off the target center.

Good job! If you can shoot well with the P11, you can shoot well with anything. The P11 has a notoriously long and heavy trigger. Once you've mastered it you'll find most other pistols easier to shoot.

Congratulations! Now I do not mean to be a nag but..having the license to carry is good but you have to stay in practice. And practice realistically as possible, I had a buddy from the army, he became a state trooper and in his first year ended up in a wheelchair after a felony stop. The perp got out of his car with a gun, my buddy drew and fired twice to the perp's chest and holstered his gun. Just like on the Q course, but the perp wasn't a paper target and was doped up. He got four rounds into my buddy before the backup officer shut him down. Besides, it may be fun to do a little competition shoot every few weeks. Again this wasn't meant to be a bummer post, just food for thought.

Very good point. One made over and over to us in our class. DH gun club offers further training for free....we are taking it. Going over all the laws concerning using a gun - even with a permit- is very sobering. Carrying a concealed weapon isn't something you do without realizing the possible consequences and accepting the personal responsibility.

That sounds like a very good club. Something that I have been doing, even though I am in a state(NM) I am not licensed to CCW in, is to practice draws and technique with an UNLOADED gun. This has helped improve my draw and reholster times, and since I am home with the baby all day I can't get to the range very often any more. But that is on hold until we fininsh our assignment in MA or I get a LTC "A". I had to send the wife's car, and all the guns I brought, back to OR with the inlaws. If you do this with snap caps you can work on clearing drills. I practice in front of a full length mirror, that way I am actually looking at another human form instead of just another sillouette or bullseye.
