I have been reading some of your posts and now realize there is a difference in ammo. 9mm isn't just 9mm. So, what is the difference between brands of ammo.
I am not sure what brand I have, I am sure it isn't expensive so we can just go out and shoot and shoot on our cheap dates.
Obviously, brand makes a large difference to many of you. So, can you lend some pointers?
I tend to like Winchester Silvertips (147 gr. in 9MM) in what ever caliber I'm using at the time for CCW. Best bang for the buck in 9MM is Federal 115 gr. JHP "9BP". Hydrashocks, Golden Sabers, Gold Dots, and Failsafe are all good rounds if a bit expensive. If they will feed thru what you're using then use the best you can afford. Even ball will work, but shot placement while always important, is absolutely critical with an FMJ or LRN.
PM me for specific questions.

I use the Speer Gold Dots because they feed the best in my 1911 and the terminal ballistics are pretty good.
What ever ammo you choose, make sure they feed well in your weapon. Use the cheaper mil-surp stuff for target practice and the higher end ammo for when it really counts.
"The Book" says to run 200 rounds of your carry ammo through your weapon to make sure it is reliable. That's pretty expensive though. At $1 a piece that can get pricey; I ran 60 rounds through and feel pretty good about it. Every so often, I run a mag of carry ammo through my pistols just to give myself a warm fuzzy feeling about it.
Keep in mind, having a weapon that goes bang every time you pull the trigger is more important than a fancy bullet that may hang up occasionally.
edited to add:
Pay attention to the muzzle velocity; some defensive ammunitions are hotter than others.

Hey Y'all,
That's one good thing about a wheel gun..........
Not nearly as picky about the ammo you feed them.
I have an SP101, .357magnum, with a couple thousand rounds through it........Never had a mis-feed, hunnh.
I have a GP 100 .357 that's working on the first thousand yet, too.
Yeah, it's fewer rounds, up front. They are a little slower to reload.........and you don't get to spray & pray.
But they get the job done with any good round you put in them.
I use to carry a Colt Commander 1991A1,.45acp.
I still have it. I love my old Colt.
But, I carry the Rugers............Reliable.
Have fun.

If you're looking for 9mm for the KT P11 you mentioned on an earlier post I have the following reccomendations. Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) for your normal target shooting and practice. It's cheap and feeds very reliably into the gun. For personal defense I would suggest any good Hollowpoint (HP) round; earlier posts suggested Federal Hydrashoks and Winchester Silvertips. Both are excellent choices and are easily found at most gun shops. Just make sure whatever bullet you use works with your gun. Some guns don't like to chamber or eject certain brands of bullet. The only way to find out for sure is through trial and error. Once you've found what works, stick with it.

Many thanks to all. We do use the FMJ stuff for target practice and I have the HOllow points in on magazine. I also load 2 shot shells as the first two rounds in another magazine, in case of snakes.
Am I to understand that different ammos pack a larger bang? Does that make the bullet go faster? Or hit harder? is 9mm just the size and what kind of ammo determine how "hard" it leaves the gun?
We go tomorrow for our class.....

I stager my ammo fmj,hp,fmj,hp etc...
I also prefer the lighter 115 in nine mm the fmj will penitrate better and the hp will tear more,some people think the 147gn is better I don't know?,I just like the light stuff for less drop at longer range.{g17}
but for a p11 long range is not a factor, at least for me I couldn't shooot it very well past 20'
