I am looking for a real nice knife/hatchet combo. I remember back in the 60's and early 70's several companies made a hatchet and knife that fit into a leather case so both could be worn at the same time. Most of the ones remember had leather handle on the hatchet and the knife. Does anyone still make these?

There are a few out there. This isn't a horrible price for a vintage Kabar set.

These Timberline units are supposed to be decent but I'm not sure on the sheath.

Here is a nice Gerber set

A different set by Schrade:

And here is a S&W set:

Overall, I'd try and score the Kabar as you know the vintage version was a US made product and probably better steel. The new units will probably be fine however I find to get decent cutlery, you need to spend a bunch of cash.
You might consider making your own. If you have a farrier local, you can take some of his old rasps and they make nice blade material.

I picked up one just like the S&W one at Aldi grocery store of all places it was less than $10 bucks. It will be nice to add to my butcher supplies. The hatchet should make a nice chopper for meat.

I picked up a set made by "K-Bar" 20 or so years ago at a garage sale for $5.00 and still have em. *Lady didn't know what she had but they belonged to her dad so they're probably from the 1960's. *The knife is on the small side at about 5.5" and the hatchet is strictly for campfire work but excellent steel.

A large khukri should work unless you really want two tools.
