I was tagging along behind the wife at the Wimberley market days, and found a stall that had two used Bear bows. I got a Bear Magnum Hunter for 75.00. It's in decent shape, and still has the sights. It'll be for the boy when he can pull the draw weight in a couple of years.

Did I make a decent deal?

Curiously, I saw a Bear laminated recurve that had been modified into a very light compound. It was either a factory job or who ever did it, had a lot of skill. They wanted 75.00 for that one too.

While Christmas shopping my wife and I stopped in at a pawn shop and picked up two PSE bows in great shape with hard case and arrows set up and ready to use. Only $175 for it all.

I have a nice recurve bow for my 16 yr old son. My problem is I can't find any arrows. I checked pawn shops and all they had were pretty bady beat up. I tried Wal Mart and the people in sporting goods they told me with a huff that they only sold arrows during season. Perhaps I am not searching the net right or something.

Earth mother, have you tried the cabelas web site? They have alot of archery equipment on there. Check the bargain cave, that's where all the sales are.

I may be shooting this bow even though I'm left handed. It seems a little awkward, but nothing I can't overcome.

I do have an old Barnette Wildcat 150 lb crossbow, but it isn't the newer compound style. I'm wondering if it will reliably take deer.

IMHO one of the best outfits to deal with if you're shootin traditional archery is Three Rivres Archery supply.

For Earthmother: your bow is traditional so you'll want to go one of two ways. Wood or Aluminum. Both have their advantages, but the arrows need to be spined right for the poundage and the length of pull for the shooter. If you'd like to contact me I'll see if I can find someone near you that can take your son under their wing and help get tuned up and shooting straight.
