I've been having an inflamed gal bladder on and off now for about 4 months. Instead of having it removed I was wanting to try some herbal remedies. I have been studying about some on the internet for a while, but I have not tried anything. Do any of you good folks on here recommend anything?

My mother has had gall bladder attacks for years. She does not want surgery so she has become very familiar with what foods cause the attacks and avoids those foods. For her corn is a killer, and things spicy like chili. Not sure what else but she has successfully avoided attacks for a long time now.
I haven't heard of any herb that might help but maybe others have.

Let me preface this with the fact that I am not a doctor. I am just a third year nursing student. I have a book entitled Prescription for Natural Cures. It is written by an MD, but I have not tried the following suggestions as i don't have gallbladder problems. With that being said, this is what the book says:
Recommended foods are beets and other fruits and vegetables that are fiber rich. Also whole grains, oat bran and flaxseed are recommended. Olive oil improves bile flow, according to this book. Avoid foods that are fried and are high in saturated fats, such as dairy and red meat. Limit intake of refined sugars. 500-1000mg of vitamin C 3 times a day, fish oil capsules, probiotic tables with each meal (follow directions on whichever bottle you buy). Hope these suggestions bring you some measure of comfort.

I've done this and it works..
Get yourself a pint of olive oil and a 1/2 pint of lemon juice. Go ahead and eat breakfast and lunch but nothing after that. About 4 o'clock or so, start taking 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of the lemon juice.. Every 15 minutes untill you consumed all of the lemon juice and olive oil. (Takes about 2 hours)
Keep taking the doses even in the event of vomiting.. DON'T STOP!! It's tough, let me tell you.. :P
Don't eat anything the rest of the evening and go to bed. You WILL wake up and need the bathroom really bad!! Once your bowels move, you will see the gall stones floating in the toilet if you care to look.. ;D
The lemon juice softens the stones and the olive oil lubes things up to allow them to pass through the bile duct. It does work! I passed some boulders.. LOL
I found this in a real old amish remedy book. I had stomach problems for years. Had to carry tums with me every day. I did the treatment and I threw away the tums. It cured me for 12 years. I finally had my gall bladder removed but it bought me a lot of time.. ;)

I also have done 12vman's cure and it worked, sort of. He's not kidding when he says it's hard to drink that much oil, even with the lemon juice. (I tried to think of it as salad dressing, but by the time you've gotten it all down, you're just not thinking at all!)
I had one stone left, about the size of a pullet egg. With the smaller stones gone, I went another year before it finally drove me to have gall bladder surgery. That was one ugly, expensive little rock.
If there is ANY way you can avoid gall bladder surgery, do it. You have one because your body needs it to store bile for proper digestion.
Since I had my 12" zipper installed for that surgery, they've come up with a way of blasting them with sound waves and you get to keep the gall bladder. If you have to so something other than the natural remedy, you might want to look into that.

very good advice so far, let me add radish and raw onion to that. best are black radishes, which are about the size of a big turnip. peel and shred them coarsley, if they are hot add a bit of cream and salt. Cream will take the heat away.
One surgeon in Germany had a knife with gallstones set into the handle. Once his housekeeper needed to cut onions and his knife happened to be there and good and sharp, so she used it. When the Dr. came into the kitdchen to look for it, she quickly hid it under the onions, however, when she took it out the onion juice had really done a number on the gall stones.

Along with the advise already given, it is beneficial to take a quality brand of Food Enzymes after each meal. Preferable one that digests protein, carbohydrates and fats. -Karen
I have exactly the same remedy for Gall-stones, a pint of purest olive oil, and the juice of 8 or 9 lemons. I have employed this over the last 15 years, and find it always removes everything. The book I have,
{"Modern Herbalism for Digestive Disorders"
Frank Roberts. ISBN 0 7225 0455 1 }
also suggests a follow up concoction, unfortunately I cannot obtain all the ingredients when we are in the UK, and have never used this part of the remedy.
Which is:
Fl. Ext. Black Root 2oz
Fl. Ext. Euonymus 2oz
Fl. Ext. Kava 2oz
Fl. Ext. Marshmallow Root 4oz
A small teaspoonful immediately after every meal, min 3 doses a day, taken in a glass of tepid water.
I would recommend keeping hold of your body parts! You can keep clearing the stones. The Gall Bladder performs an important function. I feel that those without may start to develop stones in the liver instead, quite a problem.

I understand your concern about having your Gallbladder removed. I was very worried about having mine out. And read all sorts of info. In the end I had the surgery and it went great. Mine was one where they popped 5 small holes in you and and I takes a week more or less to heal. I still have to be a bit careful about greasy food and the nearness of a bathroom But thats been the case for years. I'm very glad I had it done. I turns out mine was almost dead anyways and had 3 large stones.I feel 100% better.
I would be careful about the flushes and check this article out. http://www.quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/flushes
