George Washington was not the 1st President of the United States of America. I`m not sure who was, but it`s clear there`s some history that`s not being told.

I think lots of history is missed. Do you Know about Hell-mira? also, many don't know how many Blacks were in the Confed' army. I'd also say it's sad that more than just people of the Jewish faith were sent to the camps, but they are the only one who are remembered. Nothing agenst Jews, just more to the story.

Hey walls0stone, Right you are on the exclusiveness of jewish suffering in the Nazi interment camps. Funny how we`re never told of the Japanese atrocities committed upon their captives in the same conflict.
Regarding blacks on the Confederate side, it figures that some would fight on the side of their protector and employer. I think that chattel slavery is just plain evil. I also think the economic bondage that we all are in today is evil too, maybe more so. To be alive in those times is incomprehensible to me. But, I suppose I`d live as best I can, and be the best man I can, like I do now.

NowKnowYe, please be careful how you use George W. in the same sentence with under the constitution. Could we use George Wash. instead ? George W. just don't look right. ;D
Walls, and Cubcadet, agreed on the civil war. From what I've read it was mostly misunderstandings on all fronts, which is why it pitted brother against brother, relative against relative, friend against friend. The lesson I get from it is that we should always exhaust all efforts over and over to avoid violence, and war. I think that most any person who could have honestly tried to look at it from each side, would have seen what a terrible waste it was, on all fronts.

Hey rAcErRicK,
The War of Northern Agression was just like every war fought by an European people, even going back to the beginnings of the Roman church, and The so- called Crusades. Offensive wars, fought for a spoil, are nothing but banker`s wars, mainly to acquire booty and ransome to pay off the usery on loans to governments.

It could be argued that John Hancock was the first president. *He was president of the Continental Congress when the Declaration of Independence was signed.
From 1776 to 1789, there were thirteen (maybe fourteen?) men that held the title of President of the United States. *Geo. Washington was the first to hold office under the ratified Constitution.

George Mason, father of the bill of rights.

George Mason could very well have been elected president after Washington's second term (or sooner), had he lived long enough to make it. * :-/
