Looking For Some Gun Statistics...

I am searching for some statistical information regarding the debunking of Anti-Gun-Nuts statistics. I’m sure you remember them, they get drug out all the time by the AGN, where they site horrific stats on the number of gun deaths, the number of children killed every X-seconds, on infinitum… They site staggering totals when in fact the data only supports what by contrast is minimal totals.

To counter these grossly misconstrued statistics, there was a “truth about” counter argument around that debunked every single point through how they used the data, how they counted the “deaths” etc. It was like a set of talking points that addressed all of the propaganda calmly and with actual data that was supportable. If I remember correctly the NRA was at the root or involved somehow. I have done searches in general on the net and in particular on the NRA site(s) to no avail.

Do any of you have this information? I’ve nearly got a convert ready to cross over to 2nd Amendment supporting and some convincing information would do the trick.

Looking at his comment....

You could say it's a little like predicting how many children would die if vaccinations stopped. It's hard to make predictions about things that expected "not to happen" instead of predicting what would happen.

One way to possibly come up with a number is to look at how many felonies are stopped per year because the owner produced his/her gun. I believe that number is approximately 4-5 million per year. If you make the assumption that you have a 1% chance of getting killed while a felony is committed against you, then guns are saving about 50,000 lives each year.

I don't know about other stats but heres one that is true. 100% of criminals that are shot through the heart and the back of the head will die.
