I never got to talk to Martin, but heard him speak at various churchs.
I went on a bus tour to arlington cemetry once with him, but he was at the front and i was at the back of the bus, so had no real contact with him.
I worked at his headquarters in d.c. for several months sitting at a desk just inside the door to welcome guests and answer the telepone and direct calls here and there in the building.
It was quite an experience to be sure. I didn't know i was helping to make history in those days, along with so many others who worked for civil rights at a time when it was not a particularly healthy thing to do, with the misc. factions in d.c. at that time, all vieing for one kind of power or another.
Like i say, it was the best of times and the worst.
It was the happiest time of my life, even though i had my first cancer at that time.
In my opinion, giving yourself over to a just cause is just about the best thing anyone can do. love, alma
