Do bottlle-neck cartridges feed better in repeating firearms than straight-wall cartridges? I have been told that they do. Examples given were the .357 Sig in semi-auto handguns and the 38-40, 44-40, and 30-30 in lever guns.

In general... "yes", but it really depends on what action your running them through and also what bullet style they have...
Another thing, many old cartridges are tapered enough, with round nose bullets so it wasn't an issue anyway...

DM,
I've gotten similar replies on other forums. A few say, yes, bottle-necks are more reliable--generally. And many say straight-walls are just as reliable. But one thing I've noticed-- I've never gotten a reply that says that bottle-neck cartridges feed less reliably than straight-wall cartridiges.

I guess it's unanimous then... lol

In any modern quality firearm of any type, caliber, feed issues should not exist, and, if present, signal a problem to be addressed.

I agree with Uncle Alvah. If it is a modern firearm with modern ammo, there should be no problems. Even semi-autos which for many years were plagued by rumors (some true) of being "jam-o-matics" are extremely reliable firearms (Glock).
