I just saw a special on mondern day pirates. A cruise ship accosted by machine-gun weilding pirates turned a special accousitcal blaster on them that soon had them giving up the fight.
I thought this was interesting, so did a search on sonic weapons and found this link:

Quite a few years ago, I worked with a guy who was angered by his neighbors downstairs playing loud music night after night. They just laughed him off when he asked them to turn it down.
He had a very sophisticated and expensive sound system, so he turned one of the huge sub-woofer speakers face down to the floor - and generated very low frequency sound. (I don't know what he used to do this - but that's what he said.) In about a half hour, he went downstairs and rang the bell. It took them quite a while to answer, because everyone in the place was busy throwing up.
I suspected he was pulling my leg - but evidently there was some truth there!
As far as ultrasound being dangerous because it can dissolve bones - in the case of pirates, who cares?! Turn it up!
I could see small, remote-controled toys being usefully fitted with loud sound-emitters to flush out all sorts of criminals, (hostage-takers, terrorists, etc.) without the need for lethal weapons.
