How old were you when you got your first BB gun?

If not a BB gun, then what was your fist gun and at what age?

My daughter is 8yo. She wants a BB gun for Christmas. She has fired the old one that my brothers and I had as kids.

I don't remember how old I was when my dad taught me to shoot.
Thought I would get some input.

I seem to remember something to do with being able to cock the BB gun properly before any consideration was given to me having one of my own. My brother is 7 years my senior so I was keen on shooting his BB gun (an old Red Rider) nearly from the get go. I still remember the extremes that I went to getting that darn thing cocked! Then one day I did it the right way and before I knew it, I had my very own... As for a "real" gun, that was a J.C. Higgins single shot 22 rifle (Sears & Roebuck I think). It would shoot shorts, longs and long rifle 22 bullets. I'm thinking that I must have been 10-11 years old. Always supervised and never on my own. I had friends who were allowed to go out on their own, the thought being that if you were shorter than the rifle, you couldn't hurt yourself to readily.

I was 6, but all shooting was under adult supervision.

I think I was about 9. Hard to remember back that far. :) First .22 was before I was 16 for sure, as I used to walk or ride a bike to the hills where I hunted squirrels. Legal driving age was 16, and I know I was hunting with a .22 quite a bit before that.

I was 6 (1969) but could only touch it if my dad was with me. It was a daisy.

We just gave our 8 year old his first. He can only shoot it when I am with him and he has to wear safety equipment (mainly shooting glasses) my 6 year old is also taking part with it. My wife doesn't care for guns but I was raised with them, my first .22 was around age 10 or 11. Again I could only shoot with my father, or my best friends father who was a retired police officer.

I was 7. All shooting was supervised. One thing that has changed w/ the red riders is the lever doesn't slam down anymore if you cock it incorrectly. That has probably saved a few 7 year old fingers!
