Has anyone built a rifle/pistol for their own purposes? I believe that you legally can (thus you can legally purchase the cylinder conversions for bp pistols to go from #11 priming caps to cartridges). If I understand correctly you can legally "manufacture" a firearm for your own purposes, but you are not allowed under any circumstances to sell said firearm.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong regarding the legallity, and if willing, share your personal experiences/information on the topic

Shotgun News did an article recently on an outfit that sold the pieces to fabricate a bolt together AR-15 lower. It was "Jews for Firearms Ownership", or something similar. At the end of the article was an added note that the ATF had recently raided the place and stopped the sale of the panels.
The panels were kind of expensive, you could buy a machined AR lower more cheaply, but then you had the paperwork requirement.
Was a nice looking unit, actually, and the completed gun ran great, but I don't know what the status of the deal is now.

Would it be KT Ordinance? http://www.ktordnance.com/kto/products.php
They were recently raided by the jack booted thugs. They also have a very close relationship with the JPFO.

I have a subscription to SGN- but i confess that i largely just let them pile up since every issue is largely the same as the next and private classifieds pretty much non-existant any more. i have more luck with the thrifty nickle for our area.

The KTO 80% lower is superb but pretty spendy. At the time i was researching my 80% projects they were a top contender then got raided and shut down for a little while- so i ended up going with Kevin advertised under CNCgunsmithing.com. So far everything turned out great.

KTO is back up and currently taking orders. I am considering an AR-10 and maybe a 45 govnt model in the near future if the congressional weenies can stay off my 2nd amendment long enough for me to raise the required funds. But then i am also not finding too many avid supporters of the AR-10 model no matter the vendor.

You may well be spot on, but I don't remember KT being mentioned specifically, seems you placed the order directly with the Jewish organization.
It was in the SGN "Annual" edition, the one with a collection of articles from the past year.
You got four aluminum panels, which you drilled and tapped and then assembled with bolts/locktite. From that you completed the build same as you would on any other lower......
