First place while nice can be a double edged sword. To some it means
the same as it does @ BWH. To others it can mean home of the gunned
up wackos.
I'll take the former thank you!

Buck, I don't believe you made that statement. "Gunned up wackos?" Are you saying a person that owns guns is a wacko? If you are I must be a wacko. I have never killed anyone or even had thoughts of doing such. In my situation it wouldn't be that hard but I find life, all life too important to take without a real good reason. I have owned guns my entire life. At one time I had around fifty guns. A incredible collection of rifles and handguns. They were sold to get the family through some hard times. They were bought in the event such hard times would fall our way. An investment. Anyway, I think your statement about gunned up wackos is truly out of line and not an honest representation of the majority of Americans at all.

Hi Madmac
You and I read it completely different.
He said "To OTHERS it can mean home of the gunned
up wackos."
I thinks the others he was referring to are the antis.

;D Chill out mac. ;D To understand my intent think movie survivalist with
a Rambo knife, bandalero of ammo , face paint, and cave in the hills.
To many people THAT IS what a survivalist looks like and is some sort of
crazed wacko.
Make no mistake, as I've said before, every American has a right to own
normal hunting/self defence weaponry. BUT that don't make'm wackos.

Having around 50 guns and not being a dealer sure would cause some eyebrows to be raised though--
dont you think Mac?
I dont think authorities would think of it as an investment--???

I didn't know there was a limit by law on a private citizens property.

IT could be because when "THe American Survival" magazine went under years ago Dave bought, received, or took over the subscription list and sent all of them the Backwoods Home magazine.

I didn't know there was a limit by law on a private citizens property.
NOT what I said or referred to.
If someone like the ATF gets wind of someone amassing that amount of weaponry without being a dealer--yep, I think it would raise suspicions. Dont know if there is a limit and dont care but 50--not the average joe citizen most would agree on.
This is more than likely one of those times when yes--looks are deceiving.

I don't think 50 guns would be excessive.
I wish I had that many.
Of course getting enough ammo to shoot them would be a problem.
Not to mention how long it would take to clean them.
If they were all bought through gun dealers the ATFE already knows he has them.
I knew a guy in the Navy that had hundreds at least.
He wasn't even sure how many he had.

Doubtful, there are thousands of collectors with numbers in the hundreds, and a number in the thousands.

To complete the sentence, "When I googled survivalist magazine.............................",
the alarm bell went off at Homeland Security and a jack booted thug put my name on "the list."

Paul, your right. Really got off topic on this one, sorry Cil. I came to Backwoods as it offered a ton of info about homesteading. Canning, gardening and just good articles about living a simple life. I found out about it through a friend. Backwoods home is a great go to mag for ideas. It would only make sense that it would pop up under survivalist as that's what survivalist do. They learn to live closer to the land and become self sufficient.
Thanks Paul and Mac! Just for the record, the reason why I was looking up those kind of magazines was I wanted to see what else was out there to see if I liked it enough to subscribe to.
Any suggestions? I'm not a big fan of The Backwoodsman.

Nope, This is the best mag going. Most of the others only cover certain topics and leave many important things behind.

Check out modernsurvival.net. It is an online magazine similar to ASG. I believe the guy who runs it used to be the managing editor, or something like that for ASG.

If you don't think we are all being watched by the government, you are naive. All internet traffic is monitored by such government programs as CARNIVORE, DARPA, and those are just the ones we know about. Certain "code words" cause flags to be raised. You can bet "survivalist" is one of them.
It's a simple matter of tracing your ip address. Given the latest revelations by our wonderful government about what constitutes a "right wing extremist" it's safe to say you are now on a list.

In feb 07 a wyoming milita member was tracked and arrested after communicating his intent to travel to the mexican border and shoot mexicans crossing illegaly.
homeland security is listening to what we say, our phone conservations, our internet post ECT.
Michael savage has filed a law suit against homeland security, he has been listed by them as a Bad Guy.
A months worth of food and water stocked in my apartment pantry was called "Survivalist supplies" by the cops and lawers of wallowa county OR.
What is going on is the government is Anti survival, they want you to be on your knees in front of them.
Anyone who can do anything for themselfs is an enemy of the state.
And simply for saying this, I myself am breaking the law of homeland security
