Did Remington ever produce the 760, or any pump-action rifle, in 30-30? Or has any other company ever built a pump in 30-30? I'm mildly interested in buying one if I can fine one in good shape at a reasonable price.

I know Remington made one in .35 Remington and I have a 760 in 30-06, but not sure about 30-30. I'll have to go through some of my books to see.

BTW: The 760 is an excellent rifle. It is very accurate and with the 30-06 I would take on anything in North America except the big bears. I have a friend who took his to Africa and made 10 one shot kills on big plains game.

Yeah, Star1pup, look up those books! Seems to me that I recall (very, very vaguely) such a rifle, but can't remember much more than that!
Oh, one BTW, Star1pup, where I live the large bears you mention are quite common. I have an -06, and, while it wouldn't be my first choice as a Brownie weapon, with the 220 grain loads, I wouldn't feel undergunned should I encounter one while hunting a smaller species of food. A well placed shot with a .30 caliber 220 grain is just a fatal as a well placed shot with a .45 caliber, or whatever. Yeah, were I to go bear hunting on, say, Kodiak Island, I'd prefer something larger---one of the "thumb sized" like a .45-70, or .338 Mag. or---, but the -06 won't leave you wanting either.

I don't think Remington has ever produced a pump action 30-30. They did make the 788 bolt action in that caliber. Savage made a pump action called the Model 170 in 30-30. There is a little about it here: http://www.chuckhawks.com/pump_action.htm

Howdy

Yes,,,,,,, Springfield, Stevens, or someone like that. Being one of the not so major manufacturers made a tube fed, pump 30-30. As I remember about the mic 1970s, and was a reasonable quality arm.

Good luck

Lots of good info on this thread. After seeing the site for the model 14, I remember seeing an article in Shooting Times abiut this gun a couple years ago. I think finding one of these would be a matter of enough luck to go play the Lotto.

I've hunted Kodiak and many of the other islands on the coast, up into Prince William sound many times. As i've said in other post, i've also taken big bears and in my experience the 200 grain Nosler Partition (NP) is a LOT more bullet in a 3006 than a 220 grain!!

I'm also of the opinion that a 3006 loaded with a 200 NP will have no problem breaking a bear down. They expand fast doing a lot of damage, and then stop expanding at the partition driveing in very deeply!! Most times they do what i much prefer, by going on through to leave a good blood trail... And you never know when you will need that blood trail!

That 100-year-old 30-06 is just about the best all around cartridge ever invented. There might be others that are better for a specific purpose, but you can either buy or handload a 30-06 for just about anything.

For DM and Starpup--- agreed, the .30-06 is probably the best all-round round of all times!
Have no experience whatsoever with that 200 grain Nosler Partition, tho'. Thanks for the info, and I'm sure I'll be trying it in the future. Excellent penetration is one of my prerequisites for a bear round---'cept, of course for the black bears. There one can fudge a lot. But when you are about to piss off 1,000 lbs or more of BigNasty---well, I value me somewhat, eh?
For gunslinger----that's the one I was vaguely remembering, that old Savage, thanks for that info also!

YEah I saw one of the 7615's in 223 at Cabela's and really liked it. Would be a great survival gun.

8) I have an old savage rifle in 30-30 cal. It's a pump very nice shape & has the fancy walnut checkering. It is worth today about $300.00 I think when I bought it I paid about $260.00 for it. I bought it because I had never seen a pump 30-30 before. And I've never seen another one since. ;) A.F.M.
