I just bought a Rossi Multi-barrel single shot rifle. Its a break over type like the H&R or NEF. It came with three barrels: .22LR, 20Ga (shotgun) & .243.
Is anyone familiar with this rifle? Has anyone had experience with loading for the .243? any pet loads to recommend? I want to shoot both targets and varmints out to at least 300 yards. So I want it to shoot as flat as possible, yet have some explosion capabilities at point of impact.

I BELIVE THE ROSSI IS A CLONE OF THE H&R OR MADE UNDER LICENCE. WITH A SCOPE 300 YDS AND A GOOD SHOT WILL WORK.JUST DO NOT PUSH IT I HAD AN H&R IN 30/30/20GA

My Dad has that H&R in 30-30 and 12Ga :o
With 12 Gauge is kicks like a mule on crack! Once was enough for me. The 20 Ga was a much better choice.
I bought this mainly as a started gun for my son, but then I started looking at the ballistics. 8) Take a .308 and neck it down to a 1/4". Hello! This rivals my .22-250 but with better terminal ballistics! :D
Take a .308 and neck it down to a 1/4".
*That would be a 25-243 and has been around a very long time. *In fact many shot out 243 Wins are rebored to 25...
243 Win is .243" and the 25 cal is .257" so either would work and the 243 Win is already a factory 308 necked to 6mm...
*It's really not all that much different from a 250-3000 either....

HP, I hear ya.
Bought a H&R 12 ga, for shotgun deer season.(1970's)
Cyl bore, peep site/front blade (like a rifle).
Back then, the forearm was just pressed on to a clip under the barrel.( They now have a screw, good thing!)
So, bought some Brenneke slugs, (supposed to be the "hot set up at the time), and out to the range we go.
Set up my target @15yds just to see how it shot. Loaded it up, aimed and pulled the trigger.
It kicked up, pulled the forearm off the barrel, thumb sticking out, caught my nail on my eyebrow, cut it open.
From the recoil, didn't realize I had pushed the break button after the shot, so with the forearm in my left hand, when the gun came down,(no forearm) the barrel fell off at my feet.
It was laying on the ground, smoke coming out both ends.
Forearm in my left hand, stock and action in my right, blood running down my eyes.
I thought it had blown up!
After I gathered what was left of my self, checked the target and found that I had drilled 10x.
Only gun I own the makes it a toss-up, who gets up first, you, or what you shot at! ( still have it)
P.S. Not your "stop sign gun")

LOL, not the 12 so much, just had it with me on a turkey hunting trip, tried a 3-1/2 Hevi-shot thru it ......just to see how it patterned.
Good thing you only need one shot for turkeys, It do whallop you.
Has been discussed before, but I have several, that I shoot a lot, same action, but a lot of barrels.
I understand that Rossie does too, but never followed up on it.
HPshooter, why don't you check out what their program is? (Rossi, I mean)
These ar for one of the actions.

Hunter, Nice collection. Another milti-barrel is the Thompson/Center contender. I was heavy into them for several years and simply loved them. Particularly the handgun variety. Had 3 bull barrels, 223, 7-30 waters, and 375 Win. The 7-30 waters was my favorite, used to shoot with a bunch of renigades with an assortment of long range, super accurate (?) rifles, with scopes that cost more than my truck, yet with my T/C and 4-12 burris, could stay right with them right on out. It was a blast to watch them scratch their heads in wonderment of a handgun staying with their rifles. Did ya ever try one of them ?

No, They are pretty pricey, my whole collection (one complete Handi rifle, in .243, and 9 other barrels), was about $700 complete.
That would be a T/C and maybe two barrels.
Working on another platform, based on a .223 Handi.
