The trailer park I live in has a very large feral cat colony, some actually living in the park itself but most live in a brushy area nearby.
Yesterday when I went out to the dumpster there was a lady parked behind it with the back of her car open and several cages on the ground nearby. Two had cats in them, one had a cat eating catfood in the opening and one was totally empty.
Later in the day I talked to her after the landlord mentioned he was watching her and another lady.
By the time they left they had 14 cat in traps, all the appointments she had for today. She'll be back on Monday probably late today to return those that were neutered/spayed and collect more as they have another 14 appointments for tomorrow. Or they may be coming back tomorrow for a Wednesday trip.
I've read about people "managing" as it's called a feral cat colony but this is the first time I've actually seen them at work.
In order not to take the same ones again they are going to snip the tip off the cats left ear after surgery!
All I can say is thank heavens someone is willing to do something as I can't afford it.

When I was about 17, some people near my folks moved away and left their cats behind, roughly 8. By the time summer was over, there was double the amount, and about double that by spring and still growing in numbers. We called the local animal control and they don't serve the township we lived in, only the city of Akron. The humane society wouldn't come trap them at the time either, and in '81-'82 there weren't the private animal shelters we see today. The animal control office said cats weren't a domestic animal, the game wardens office said they were...giant loophole in animal laws. Sadly we had to take matters into our own hands but were able to find homes for a few of the kittens we were able to catch. That experience alone was what convinced me that any pets need to be spayed/neutered, especially if they go outside.
