With the cost of feed going up. I like to look for ways to keep the chicks fat and laying.
We have a mobile pen and henhouse so the girls (and our 1 guy) get new forage every day.
It's a mixed flock of Buffs, Rhode Island Reds and Arracannas (sp?).
The are at maximum egg production and haven't had their moult yet.
Here's my trick. When using cans, containers and tuperware, there's always residue that can't be removed.
Tomato sauce etc.
I fill the can with water, slosh it around and pour it in a dog food bowl for the girls.
This is in addition to their normal water supply. I never let it sit long in the kitchen. I check the bowl to make sure they finished off in a fairly quick time.
They seem to like it. Extra fulid is always a plus for birds. It puts food into the birds bellies. It prevents the food from sitting in your trash or ending up in the spetic.
