I live in a manufactured home in the country. A couple of weeks ago I realized that I had a skunk under my house. I couldn't smell him inside (thank goodness!) but I would pound on the skirting and the skunk would "fart" just enough so I could smell that he was definitely there.

After trying to locate a live animal trap, unsuccessfully, a friend told me about mothballs. I sprinkled mothballs all around the perimeter of the house, tossing a bunch under the house, and then tucking a bunch in any holes I found going under the house.

It took about two days, but I think that ol' skunk is gone. I haven't gotten any kind of response in the last three days when I pound on the skirting.

A neighbor did loan me a live trap a couple of days ago, but so far nothing.

The moral of the story? Keep some mothballs on hand.

borax and mothballs are great for such tasks. I hired a fellow years back who grew up i na family business, pest controle. He took care of a skunk for me one day like this.

Live trap, followed instructions for set up, and for bait he used cheese crackers. The kind that come in sandwitch packs of 8.

when he cought the critter, he tossed a blankeet over the whole cage. When he had to get up close from a long distance, he used a large bit of cardboard and made a sheild. I guess woodchucks, skunks and other pests love those little crackers.

Lat week I had the same situation.. I used a 12 gauge

I would be leary, what if I failed and angered the critter and could not get close to my house. I once had some critters in my attic that made noise all night, sounded like they were playing football up there. when I went up with a flashlight, nothing, silence. so I fought fire with fire, I got a radio and put it on a station that plays modern music, you know that the kids nowadays like and turned it on full blast. I went to town and did other things, but it worked, they could not stand the noise aqnd after a couple of sleepless days they left. I don't know how musical a skunk is, but I sure would put a radio under there first. does not cost anything either, if you have a radio already.

This is the time of year we get skunks moving in to raid the chicken nests. We use a live trap with a cover on it so we can transport without them seeing us, then we use a 12 gauge and shovel.

Once the wind carried the O' de Pew down the road to the neighbors house, and they thought they had a skunk in the house.

I've had coons in the barn too. They crap everywhere and eat up my grain. I use the same technique.
