We got lucky the other day, my Uncle looked out the barn door and noticed a cow was circling up in the upper field in a slow, big circle. After grabbing his binoculars he saw what was going on.
A coyote was about 30 feet away from the cow. She had given birth a few days before and the coyote wanted the calf. The cow had put herself between the coyote and the calf and the circling thing had begun.
The cow was too big for the coyote to take, but at some point the nimble coyote would have won the battle. It was only a matter of time. Luckily the coyote was so engrossed on his positioning that he never notice my uncle who got close enough to get a good shot in.
I don't have a picture unfortunately, but the coyote was about the size of a German Shepard. With the deep snow we had this winter, it no doubt had eaten pretty good on deer all winter.
Good riddance...
