Do you have moose or bears coming by your place on a frequent basis? I'd be interested exchanging some observations.

When i lived in Alaska, moose were around my place all the time... Over the years i grew to hate them, as they destroy everything you plant, gardens, tree's, berry bushs ect... ect... Where i lived you couldn't get rid of them, and you can only eat so many...

In the winter, they took over your yard and you had to be VERY carefull with your dog, and your family when going outside... I've been charged by a moose more than once...

I'm so happy we don't have them around here where i now live... We do have them in this state, but not right here on my place...

Yeah that doesn't sound like much fun *:( I have a friend who worked as a park ranger in Denali and at that time they had a moose hanging around that hated one of the staff there. The moose would hang out in the parking lot, not bother anybody, just when this one guy would show up, the moose would go after it!
We are right in a moose wintering area but haven't had any problems so far. They do come around the cabin on and off but either run away or ignore us. I almost wonder if the Alaskan moose somehow tend to be more agressive? I also heard from Alaskan mushers that they often run into problems with moose on the trail. Here, the moose just seem to take off.

up at my cabin we have allot of bears. See them on a frequent basis. Never underestimate the intelligence of a bear. Mostly they just want to be left alone. I would rather come up against a bear anyday then a moose. Moose are to unpredictable.

Is that black bears you have around? We have both grizzlies and blacks, but it's mostly the black bears that we see. I used to find bear encounters really scary but have to say that after bumping into them on a more frequent basis I also think the fear factor is highly overrated. They do their thing and then wander off. What I find really fascinating is how different their personalities are. From curious and goofy over ponderous and peaceful to grumpy. We live on a big lake and in early summer can often watch the bears on the hillsides from the boat.

They are mostly black bear but since my cabin is only 1/4 mile from the canadian boarder some of the more stupid grizzlys that can't read still cross over once in a while. I saw a nice looking griz cub and mom above newport wash one day. Montana and the panhandle of Idaho have a few grizzlys also

We have moose and bears...both blacks and the occasional grizzly. The mooses are the biggest problem because they take out the horse pasture fencing and gates to get to the horse's salt. Our Great Pyrenees keep the bears moving so we have no problems with the bears.

My Pyrs are strictly outdoor dogs (they sleep in the barn in a pile of cedar shvings). By spring they smell truly foul. They love finding winterkilled deer and other carcasses and having a nice roll. Add to that their habit of swimming the river year round and by May they are a matted stinky mess. So we take them off to a very brave and obviously olfactory challenged groomer and she shaves them down and bathes them and by fall they are fluffy coated and ready to get winter-stinky all over again.
