Too late for bees this season?

After reading all of the news about the honeybee die off, it has made me interested in starting a hive. I have always been interested in bees, and this is the catalyst that has pushed me to do it. My question is: It is too late to start a hive in the next couple of weeks? Should I just wait until next year? I imagine I won't be able to get any honey this year and that is fine, but I don't want to send the little critters to their death either. Thanks,

No, it's not quite too late for packages in this area.

Nucs are another option, plenty of time left for nucs.

Do you have equipment ready?
Swarm season starts soon around here...that's the cheapest way to get started.
