Very cool whale story

I got this by email, and checked it on snopes to be sure it was true, and it IS! In fact, I'll post the link so you can go there and read the whole thing, since I'm not supposed to be logged on to the forum while I'm at work! ;D

Basically, the story said that some guys risked their lives to save a whale that was tangled up in a lot of lines, and she seemed to know that they were helping her, and seemed to thank each diver when she was cut free.

Do you think a whale could reason this out, and have enough of a complex thought process to say "thank you" to another species?

I saw a clip of this on TV when is happened. Someone in a boat was fliming the whale and did a shot of it's eyes. It really seemed to know what was going on. Really cool.
It was very still while the guys were working on the ropes.
