We just had a birthday at our house for our now 12yr we always try to do dual purpose gifts fun and educational. We got him a hydraulic building kit from the company below. We bought the kit at hobby lobby They have a selection of "toys" like this there is a plan on there web site for free for a robotic hydraulic arm. We got him the 4 model kit for $28.00. He built one so far and has been tweaking it and doing some web research. Well here's the link:
