I have a friend that has everything already planted and looking great. He is already picking Strawberries.
What I got planted looks great but I got side tracked when I ran my tiller out of gas. Took me over a week and 5 or 6 disassemblies to get it running again and after getting two more rows tilled and ready, not planted mind you, just tilled, it started raining.
I have been able to get out in the field and till some more boig circles for cukes, squash, water mellons, and cantalopes.
I feel better already. I just stopped to check the radar and it looks like the rain split up and is going way south and way north of us and I thought just maybe I can get back at it, and out pops the sun. Yea Haw.
Maybe I can get what I want to plant in the field planted today after all.
I hope ya'lls is going at least as good as mine (which isn't saying alot, but it's a start) and I'd be happy yours it is as nice as Steves is. He gets a head start every year and something all ways slows me down.
People talk about micro climates. Steve isn't but may 18 -20 miles from me as the crow flies and I can work in my garden one day and he can't his, because of the weather.
I ask him yesterday "what he was going to do today"
Smart a** says, ain't nothing to do, the rain has watered the gardens. :-[
Hope ya'lls are going well.

I have tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, jalapenos, cantaloupes, and watermelons in a small garden behind my house, and all is growing well. I have about 10 more acres tilled up to plant peas, corn, and more watermelons, but my biggest challenge will be keeping the deer, hogs, and coons out of them.

My strawberries are doing great, forming berries, but will be several more weeks before I get any to eat.
My rhubarb is doing so good,I put some more in another container.
The mini blueberries look like they are starting to pick back up,so maybe by next year I'll get a taste.
So far I've got all my herbs in,a couple of tomatoes, and some hot peppers.
I still have a few more planters to get done and get the rest of the tomatoes and peppers in,and I want to put in some squash and green beans.......
Concentrating mostly on perenials this year. All the herbs I bought will come back,or are supposed to.
I bought 7 more planters to make up for the space the strawberries are taking up.
I'll post some photos once I get everything settled in.

WET! WET! WET! and then it rained. 3 1/2 inches in last few day,s. Raining now expecting another 2 ta 3 inches by sat night. Way behind on planting this year. When it dry,s up i,ll put it in. Late harvest just make,s younger and more tender veggie,s ta can up. What,s out now seem,s ta be doing alright for now.
*I never rush into getting my gardens started, but i did till up one of them a few days ago...

*I then brought out the several pails of potatoes i had stored, and sorted out what i wanted to use for "seed", and what was for "eatin"... * :) *These are my fav's, "Yukon Golds"...
http://www.fototime.com/D320C672CCFB72F/orig.jpg
*And planted them in one end of my back garden.
http://www.fototime.com/90DCA875E9D2E78/orig.jpg
*I never plant too many potatoes, just some for early digging. *There's no use planting a huge amount, because a big potato farmer near here sells "field run" potatoes in several varieties for $5.00 per 50 pounds!
http://www.fototime.com/DCC9C31CB44326F/orig.jpg
*Anyway, i'm also digging a head/plant of garlic, as needed for cooking too...

*But, for the most part, i won't be planting much of anything until the end of this month...

by the end of this month is kind of late for around here. My corn and beans were up nicely but got eaten , about 90 % of it by something. No rabbits and no dear. I see a lot of holes, and I mean a lot, about as thick as a pencil all over the area. the potatoes are looking good. so far. I am getting paranoid around here. I picked the first radishes today. Parsley from last year is nice and I really need to cut the peppermint and lemon balm for drying. the rugosa roses are blooming and I notice the bees are working the blossoms. so I am glad I started another row.

DM,we used to have a potato farmer near here that sold them the same way, couldn't beat the price.
But they are gone now, along with a lot of other farms I guess.I haven't been able to locate any local growers of much of anything.
Even the produce stand I used to buy from only does sweet corn and nothing else now.

That is really neat that your friend is already getting strawberries!
My garden is doing well so far. All of my tomatoe plants I started in the house. They are almost ready to put out in the garden.
The lettuce is up and we have been eating salads almost everyday.
Peas, potatoes, radishes, carrots, are sprouted.

We always end up with at least one last good frost in May, so all thats out now are greens, herbs, and root crops. (Potatos, onions, beets, turnips, and parsnips) Most are already well above ground. I've thinned both strawberry beds twice already and plan on expanding the larger of the two this week. I've thinned and lengthened the blackberries in the back, built the grape arbors, and have another area ready for around 20 feet of wild blackberries I am transplanting from my folks place tomorrow. A friend also brought me about 2 dozen raspberry chutes, and I planted them along a 40foot run out front, they never skipped a beat.

There was "scattered" frost around here last night too, and that's why i'll wait a couple more weeks before planting any plants...

I am glad the frost didn't kill anything, leera. I haven't been able to get anything done since the run in with the dang snake. Garden is just setting there waiting on me. I did get some more seeds started but I sure can't run the tiller yet. I have some sort of problem every dang year. I just wasn't cut out for farming, LOL.

I told a lie, I told a lie, I told a lie. My daughters boyfriend got out and started cutting the grass for me and got my blood moving again, and I fired the tiller up just to see if I could run it.
By the time he finished the grass I had 3 rows tilled, :-[ but I ran out of gas. Me. My body ran out of gas.
I am praying the rain will hold off 12 more hours. I have to go to bed.

I have some of my herbs planted in pots. my peppers are started in pots but
other than that I'm waiting till the end of the month too because of frost.
I still have to transplant a blueberry bush and plant 2 fruit trees, and get some other areas ready for planting. Oh yeah a chicken coop to build too. ::)

I just can't win for loosing. I had to take a shaft to the machine shop to get a sproket welded with a tig welder yesterday and couldn't help but to stop by Southern States. Bought a bunch more plants and started tilling and the needle just fell out of the carb on the tiller. I can't find it and had to order one that won't be here until Thursday.
What ya want to bet it'll be raining before then. I am going to try and use the hoe this evening and plant some anyway.
I am going to a different ER this morning for the dang snake bite. Maybe someone there will have a brain. Sure isn't anyone here with one.

And here is a dry view of the garden from the other direction, notice all the rocks..... it's gonna take some time to get them out of there.....

We have tomatoes, bell peppers, habanero peppers, squash, carrots, radishes, onions both white and yellow, okra, the angle luffa or chinese okra (now that I know what it is), potatoes, watermelons, and cantaloupe so far.
We will be putting in cabbage and lettuce and pole beans and a few other things soon. Just waiting on hubby to get home and till me up some more spots! :)
Blueberry, raspberry, and blackberry bushes are doing well too. And our grape vine is taking off, I have it starting up a hog panel now. Any advice, does it matter, should I have the hog panel vertical or horizontal? Right now it's vertical up against the hog barn you see in the pic.

Not sure how many packets he planted, but we know we have a lot of friends/family to supply so none of it is going to waste. Will be a good way to meet the neighbors after living here 2 years as well :)

WOW Southerngirl that is sure a lot of fine looking radishes! I have my grapes on a hog panel fence so we were thinking in the same vein. I have blooms on a lot of stuff but the only berries I have are on the black berry bushes. I want to sneak out today and grab some dewberry's from my MIL's place before they spray weed killer on them. It's kinda late to take them out now but we have been rather cold this year so I hope all will be well. I will just take lots of extra care with them.

My wife would be your friend for life with all those radishes. They look great. She cleans them and will set watching TV with a bowl and a bowl of "LITE" salad dressing, LOL, and eat a whole bowl of them.
The garden looks good. I wish I could get mine going that good but this looks like another year as those gone by. Murphy came by again. *>:(
