I got this new loom the other day. My sis in law brought it with her when she moved here from Calif and sold it to me cheaply for what she paid for it. I am hoping to learn to warp and use it at some point. I love it!
I have learned that it is probably a rug loom and maybe a rising shed loom..any thoughts?? I plan to do some research as much as I can this week. No weaving guild or shops nearby..darn it! I may have to do some questioning from a distance online I guess.
Isn't it cool??

Jenny,
She only has dialup and the file is too large w/photos. I am going to PM you with my email address. If you could send them to me, I will print them out and take to upcoming fiber meeting.

Jenny......Did you ever get going on this loom? I am a weaver and if you still need advice I'd be glad to help in any way I can.

I've been looking at these pictures and it shure is a cool loom! I wish I was there to show you how to warp it and get started weaving. It would be a whole lot easier than describing with typed words, however, now I'm kind of curious to see if it could be done that way. Do you know the names of the parts? The heddles (yours are made of string), the reed, the beater, front beam and back beam? Maybe I could post a diagram out of one of my books but that's something I'd have to figure out how to do. Did you get any tools with the loom? A sley hook is important for pulling the warp threads through the holes in the heddles and the slits (called dents) in the reed. You can use a crochet hook if need be. You'll also need an assortment of dowels or straight sticks the width of the loom and strips of old fabric and some heavy paper if you can find it. The type of warp thread you choose needs to be strong, not stretchy, and not prone to fray when rubbed on repeatedly. You'll be surprised how much of it you'll need too. Well, I suppose I could go on and on about weaving. It is my passion. Let me know what you think.

Jenny! I didn't know you got a loom!!! Mine (20 yo Harrisville Design T/6) is still in the box (for 2 years), but is now in my future fiber room instead of the basement.
The lady I bought the loom from also sent me a book about warping by myself

Hey Cyndi!!!! Good to see you here. Maybe we can both get our looms going this winter!!!
Thanks for your advice Rhonda. I did find a book....and I think it will help. Thanks so much for the advice on things I will need to get started. It didn't come with tools at all. I am sure I will have more questions. I have only used a Navajo loom in the past. ( I did figure that out and warped it and all by myself)
Do you know of a source for buying the hook and warp??? I don't have a weaving shop anywhere near here..darn it!!
Thanks so much for your help!!!
