How many of you plant your gardens according to moon phases? I was going to try it this year but the rainy weather has fouled that up, so far the only thing I have in the garden is potatoes

rak - I know lots of folks here do plant by moon phases - I have never tried it and have been in a similar situation - too much rain has delayed lots of stuff going in. I may still try to get things in going forward (assuming it dries out long enough)!

Good Luck

I pay NO attention to the moon when i plant, and my gardens do just fine... And, i don't see any reason to change that...

glad to see someone else from Ky. I try to plant by the signs, and do other things by the signs. we need to set fenceposts and are waiting until thrusday, when the moon is in capricorn (what the oldtimers call i n the knee) best sign next to virgo for setting poles, but in the dark of the moon. today I plan on planting a few more cabbage, and tomorrow the tomatoes and peppers go out, plus I hope to plant more beans and corn as it is a good fruit sign.

my gardens in thepast have done well, too without paying attention to signs.but I did notice that some years lettuce, spinach would bolt really fast, for instance. I am convinced there is an effect that can be noticed if you pay attention. Maria Thun ( the mother of biodydnamic farming of Germany, after Rudolf Steiner) had said that 2007 would be hot and dry as the dominant sign for that year was a fire sign, forgot which one, I donot know what the sign was for last year, I wish I knew more about it. Even the Bible says that the moon and stars are for signs and seasons.

Yes,Im in central Ky, but being from here yourself you know all too well that could be anywhere in 2/3 of the state :)
Its my own fault for being late this year, I got the notion to go with heirloom varieties for seed saving at last minute, left everything out in the building when that last cold snap hit and it killed everything I had.
The reason for my interest in planting in the signs, theres an old-timer down the road that has over half his garden out and you wouldnt believe how well its doing. He does it every year, hes the first to have anything out so early and it does very well every year

You can have good gardens ignoring the sign, but fantastic gardens with the signs. If the moon can cause forces to effect tides, why can it not also effect germination, growth, production, etc? Why can those same magnetic and gravitational pulls not effect other physical and biological stuff? I believe that using the signs is just as much science as tides are science. One must first realize that there is a difference between astrology and astronomy.

Where's the moon have to be so you can set fence post? ha ha ha

I've been farming/gardening all of my life, and my father before me and his father before him... I never ever heard my dad talk of planting by the moon, and i bet you my grandpa didn't either... Sooo, i don't worry about the moon too much...

I can easily grow more than i can eat, and i don't need to plant acres to do it either... I find compost does more good than the moon... lol

I think it's like many things, if you believe in things like that then it works for you, if you don't everything works out fine without it...

Full moon thru last quarter

Do they then produce a bunch of "little" fence post? OR do they just grow bigger?? lol

There are two types of plants when planting by moon: three days before Full Moon, & three days before New Moon; other factors have been noted, but these are the main ones. There is *a proper phase for felling trees. I will read up and report back with sources. http://www.ringwoodcommunitygarden.org.au/docs/moonplanting.pdf (http://LINKADDRESS)

my dad told me that his grandfather still had trees cut by the signs. cut on certain days it will not split or warp. Have you ever heard of a chimney made of wood? I have seen one, and it is fireproof. In the mountains where I am from there are lots of little bridges over mountains streams. You all have seen the p[icture of the little boy and girl with the bigguardian angel, well, just like that picture. they made a new bridge and dang, I almost fell in the water, it rained and it was slick as ice. The old bridge was not, but of course they paid attention when the wood was cut. You have heard of Venice Italy, and the whole city is standing on oak posts. for hundreds of years they have been standing in water and have not rotted. I have told this a few times before, too. I still have a christmas wreath of spruce that I cut the greens on a certain day and it has not needled. that was years ago.
it is not necessary to do that, folks live quite well without paying attention. It is sort of like being in rythm with creation, divine order.
fenceposts set in an earth sign in the dark of the moon or on the new moon are not likely to wobble. They settle solid and firm. ladies, you ever got a perm and then complained because it did not take? In Austria and Germany there are beauty shops that have days set aside especially for doing nothing but perms, different days for haircuts. Far less complaints about perms that do not take. Same with coloring. My neighbor just complained about the self same thing, and I could see myself it wasnothing to crow about, she blamed the beautician, I told her to next time do it on a virgo day.
