Raw Wool (fabric), Roving ?

I am trying to learn to hand spin yarn but have found that the raw materials are often more expensive or just as expensive as the prepared yarn. Does anyone know where you can get it at a reasonable price. We only have an acre of land in live in Central Texas so DH says getting my own sheep is out of the question especially with the goats, chickens and monster dogs we already have.

There is no money in wool... so I would look for someone nearby that has sheep and see if they will sell you some raw wool cheap... I had a neighbor that one time gave me some wool...

Also, look in your area for a fiber arts club and try to do some networking. But, shearing is about to take place here and maybe where you're at, too. So, I wouldn't wait too long.

Another idea would be to place an ad on Craigs List.

I didn't think about craigs list. I have been looking around here for someone that has sheep but so far just goats. But I will keep checking.
