Compost Bin

Hey all,
I'm ready to begin construction of a bin and have decided on this one, www.compostinfo.com/tutorial/Bins/ConcreteBlock.htm as I have a good supply of blocks that were free. :)
Has anyone built this or something similar? If so, how does it work for you and do you have any tips for modifications that you would have done during building it?

i don't know why folks get so elaborate with composting - unless you live somewhere with unending windstorms, an unwalled pile will function just as well as one in a structure - if you need to aerate an exceptionally deep pile, just lay in a section of perf poly sewer pipe from edge to edge across the pile a couple feet off the ground - the pipe is cheap and will last for years -
another advantage of an unwalled pile is that it is movable - have it in one spot in your garden for a full season and move it the next - you can then plant that first spot and take advantage of all the nutrients that leached into the soil over the year the first pile was working -

That's right, i have concrete reinforcement wire around mine and it gets in the way at times. There's a big squash vine growing in the compost and i just hope it's something worthwhile; it sure is big enough.

Thanks for the Encouragement. As I said, the blocks were free and I'm just looking for projects to put them into.

DareDevil, I'd take the concrete blocks and make raised garden beds--Oh, how I envy you finding them free.
My compost bin has walls--Straw Bales, as in "Four Season Gardening.The walls will be used as another starter--on straight on the garden as mulch--very moveable.
I used to have a incenerator for trash made from blocks too. But, Hey--they'd make a good compost bin too.

Mine has walls also. They are made of old pallets. If I just had a mound it would just get aways from. Oh the memories of the small child eating compost heap. ::)
